Got a dewalt portaband in trade for a job I did. I've seen the SWAG off road vertical stand but I'm looking for a stand that let's you use it as a chop saw. Any one know who makes it?

Stuff and things that make it better.
From what I've read the blades on portabands are too thin and wander too much for a clean cut when used as a chop saw, but I have seen one made for Milwaukee portabands but not for Dewalt's and they're super expensive. http://www.mytoolstore.com/milwauke/6225.html

If you still want one you could always make your own ;)

While I was putting in a new roll of wire, I thought I'd get a pic...

I don't know if it's been discussed before, but I wanted to use .023 wire in my Hobart 210, except the problem was the roller only allowed for .030/.035 and I couldn't find a local source and ordering another one was ~$20

I just added another notch with my angle grinder/cut off wheel with less depth so the wire sits next to, rather than in the groove. I've gone through about 15lbs of .023 with the roller modded like this and have had zero issues.

Yeah, adjust the tension accordingly like any other size. I didn't have any issues.

Those 3m purple striping disks work very well, if I don't have one I use the dreaded wire wheel.

    Awesome!

I might have retorted your post on accident so beware the ban hammer!

I never went to school for welding, just took a couple classes. I'd rather work all day and have free time then being in school and working. When finals came around I was doing 20 hr days, thee rest if the time was only 10 hr days 5 or so days a week. Even then schools always in the back if your mind. With work when the days over its over. I would wake up in the middle if the night for almost two eeks after thinking I had some project or something to do. Only thing I miss us not having summer classes.

Nice. You know it's good when the slag starts coming off by itself!

I hope you are aware that being a pipeline welder almost always requires an apprenticeship or being a helper. You gotta do the shit work for a while to TRY to earn your keep.

Seems like there is plenty of experience in here. Maybe I'll learn something that the boss won't point out!

Tig welding. I use tig MAYBE half a dozen times a year if I'm lucky. Practice, practice, practice!

The fallowing picture is using a Tri-mix gas and Lincoln 308lsi hard wire. Our shop typically runs a hotter gas like 98-2 on SS or 95-5 on mild steel. We do a lot of structural welding. This was welded flat, not vertically like shown in the picture.

I was making $19 a hr as a apprentice with the boilers union. I've worked with Zachry and shaw group welding 2'' pipe sch 120 for yrs $25+hr and 100+ a day per diem. Im not trying to be a smart butt. But most jobs dont care about school. Because what you can do in a booth. Dosen't mean you can do it on the job. Two differnt worlds
