What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

My point is... at least pick a different color.

Couldn't imagine having white LEDs shining in your eyes at night.

 

Wow, big undertaking.

I would have simply removed the components (eg grille, wheels, etc) to spray them. A lot less labor intensive than masking/bagging everything.

I like the idea of the white top, but for some reason I'm not feeling the lines of it. Especially where it crosses the A-pillar.

But it looks like a really good job. Check back in after a few seasons about its durability. Would be very curious to know.

 

yep. If I'm not mistaken it's the first plate bumper he's made for a first gen. He does make a mean hybrid too. Neither are on his site though. I ordered without seeing a picture. Took a leap of faith on that haha, but this thing is awesome.

Plus I can get my ricer-groove on and have it match the outside of my truck.

 

Yeah, I'm not even going to bother with the needles. Too much of a PITA.

So I have to decide whether red lights + yellow-ish needles or orange lights + yellowish needles looks better.

And forget LEDs... I'm sticking with incandescents. I don't see the point of the "upgrade."

It is more of how much epoxy do I have to use and will it hold.

you are referring to the two on the end caps of the frame? It's been awhile since I took mine off but from what I remember you cant really get to them except through a hole right? In that case I would say cut off the crush cans then you might be able to use vice grips. But I would suggest cutting out the cap anyway and welding in something more beefy. There are a few write ups about doing it.

 

I don't want "really bright" glaring my eyes when driving at night.

And my truck is 16 years old with 180,000 miles on it. Original bulbs still going strong.

I also don't like the quasi-dimming of LEDs. I like my gauge lights turned down way low.

And I like the looks of the red + stock needles in those photos. Thanks for the visual.

 

So the needles end up lighting up redish?

And why does the lower RPMs look white? Is that just shitty picture syndrome?

Yeah I believe we're talking about the same thing. Gotta go through holes to access the nuts. I got the two inside nuts off but stripped the outside ones. I can get vise grips on them but only have like 2 cm of room to move it. And they're so soft it slips anyway.

 

heat is your friend. if you don't already have a torch it's a good investment.

I have one similar to this, works great, you just don't want one that dies if you invert it.

Does anyone have experience with the 8"-10" travel ORI struts?

I wonder why I haven't heard many people get these over the extended travel icons or similar?
Seems like price is around the same.
