I went into the bay where the guy was sandblasting the frame of an older F150, so I know they are not going to just pressure wash it. The company is charging 650 for labor, and 100 for materials. They say it takes one day to sand blast the frame, and then the next day to undercoat (so they can do several sandblastings in one day, then undercoatings the next).
Like I have already posted, I tried to clean my own frame by wire wheeling it, then using undercoating in a can, by it did not hold up at all.

Ive been doing that for years with the same results as you. This year I'm taking a different approach with new to me paint/primer/rust inhibitor. Maybe I'm technically insane for hoping for different results but only time will tell.

You might have better luck this year with new paints and rust inhibitors, but only time will tell.
This is where I brought my truck too: http://www.autorust.com/rustproof.html
At the bottom of the page, you can see their pricing chart.

To the OP: Sorry for thread jacking, I would really like to see how Toyota does on your frame. Quick question for you, do you know if they pull off the beds like they did for the previous recall on the Tacomas/Tundras?

That's who I use, unfortunately mine's an 09 so nothing for me. WTF didn't toyota just include all model years since it's obvious everybody will eventually have issues?

they won't because the problem will not happen to everyone, only a small subset will have issues, even though all frames potentially can have problems

-people who underwash the truck constantly in winter (that is me, once a week all winter long when it is sloppy out)

-people who sell the truck after 5 years

-people who don't encounter enough salt

-frames that -did- get dipped correctly by Dana

Anyone with 2010+ models starting to see issues? Mine has 78k and has been thru a couple completely miserable PA winters and is still looking good. Reading all these threads has me constantly paranoid though

Holly crap that's a great deal! Much better than I expected especially for the NE. Glad to see they also do the inside of the doors - I just did that myself after finding a ton of mud and rust in them while I was soundproofing.

I take a trip to RI yearly to visit family in Providence. Almost makes me want to schedule an appointment with them when I am up there.

If you are ever up this way, I would definitely call and make an appointment. They just called to let me know that my truck will be ready for pickup tomorrow morning. I can wait to have my truck back :goingcrazy:

Was thinking after reading some replies here, are they somehow spraying the inside of the frame as well? If salt is getting inside the manufacturing holes, wouldn't it just rust from the inside out?

Supposedly in 2009 they moved away from Dana and started having another company make their frames, so lets keep our fingers crossed. If it was the fault of Dana then we should be good, but if it is due to Toyota specs then not so much, only time will tell.

I still get paranoid about it too and crawl under my truck 3 to 4 times between Apr - Nov to spray excessive amounts of fluid film on the frame, including inside any portions of the boxed parts I can get to. As well as rinse the frame frequently during winter.

Here is one question, what are the going to do about components that are factory installed to the frame such as receiver hitches, mounting bolts and what not. Not to get to technical about anodes and cathodes but corrosion does like to migrate to weaker alloys

Yes, they are going to sandblast (as best they can), and then use their coating on the inside of the frame. I did have to ask them to get the part of the frame that is in the engine compartment, since there was some rust there as well.
And that is exactly what's happening to the frames, they rust from the inside out.

Edit: Or are you talking about what Toyota would do? They just spray a wax substance on the inside of the frames (boxed and inside the C channel).

This. Toyota should be forced to remove any salvageable frame, sandblast it, re-dip the whole thing and finally reinstall. Either this or outright replace the defective by design frame with a properly built/coated version.

As a new owner of an 05, I'm pretty disheartened by all of this. We went with Toyota because they're supposed to hold up. Mine it's clean underneath and has low miles, so I planned on keeping her for at least 10 years. I really don't want something I have to babysit and obsess over. Got enough problems.

I wonder if they're able to tell by date of frame manufacture if you got a half-ass dipped frame, or if it's the entire lot for the years in question?

I completely agree with you. The reason I went to an 05 when I was looking for a Tacoma was to get away from frame problems. I guess I was wrong...

Well you in CT right? The OP does mention the states that are currently authorized to perform this and CT is not one of them - right now at least.

Wrong, Maybe not with all "09's" but mine is starting to look bad!

I called two major dealerships, & they didn't know anything about this.
