    Sodium is weak. You need something further down in Group 1 like caesium.

    Make your own

    How to make pure sodium

    Materials Needed: Table Salt
    Metal dish or spoon
    9 volt battery with two wires, one attached to each electrode
    A bunsen burner or a fresnel lens


    Step 1: Put the salt into the metal dish.

    Step 2: Heat the salt with the burner or the lens until it melts.

    Step 3: Take away the heat, and quickly run the electricity through the molten salt. Do this until the molten salt has turned into a molten metal.

    Step 4: Pour this metal into a cool pan, not in water, and let the metal harden and cool.

    If you have gotten this far, you now have pure sodium metal! Great fun when you put it into water, and watch it fizz and explode!

    One thing at a time. Right now, I want sodium. I saw program last night in which a dude put about 1/2 once in a beaker of water, and it blew it up. SO...I yell to Julie to write "sodium metal" on my list of things i need. Fortunatly, she doesnt know what it is.

    It says BUNSON burner... not stove. You can plug that thing in anywhere... like OUTSIDE :D
