    searching for a good tacoma
Anyone have any stock tacomas that they take off road?

Or take off road with little modifications, maybe just new tires with out lifts and other stuff?

How bad do you need modifications?

    LET'S SEE THEM!!

Preferably regular cabs, but all are welcome!

My DCSB TRD off road 4x4 v6 auto does great stock. Locker and atrac is pretty amazing.

About to do a small 2 inch lift and probably some 265/75/16 tires soon

X's 2. I have no plans for a lift. I find no reason to mess with a perfectly capable truck, unless you are rock crawling. The stock 4X4 off road package will take me pretty much any where I want to go.

X2. I've thought about a lift, but I rarely go wheeling so I'd pretty much look like a poser. I mainly go to the snow and the BLM's to go shooting, but those don't require a lift

Plus I come from a background of lowered trucks, and I like the street look. My taco with the bigger tires gives me that street look without dropping it

I like the look of a lifted truck with bigger tires, but for me I'm really struggling on justifying it. The only offroading I do is the beach, and rocky trails at my folk's ranch, both of which my taco manages perfectly.

On top of all that, I've always wondered why growing up I'd watch Animal Planet/Discovery etc., and these dudes were driving seemingly stock vehicles in Australia and Africa's various terrains without issue. I think learning how to drive properly off road can save thousands in modifications IMO. (but I do like the look ;))

Stock isnt too bad offroad. New suspension is much smoother though. I used to say Id never lift my truck, then finally ended up with just a 2" lift. Its not about the lift though its about the performance.

I have a stock TRD Sport 4x4 with street tires and I have been to Ocotillo Wells and in a couple places where I thought... shit... I got here... hope I can get back.

Never had an issue. Never even aired down.

Your lift configuration is actually what I've been thinking about for some time, just don't know if it is right for me.

But yeah, I think people would be surprised how far they could get with a stock truck if they didn't drive like and idiot. I remember driving on Padre Island National Seashore, 27 miles down in 4x4 only territory in some hairy soft sand, and there was stock single cab ranger who was handling it. I saw all sorts of cars on that beach farther than you'd think they should have gotten.

I literally just transferred ownership from my brother to me at the DMV today. However, I borrowed it a few years ago and did a pretty extensive offroad trip. This was one of the more major challenges.

100% stock except for LT265/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2.

I'm going to put a full icon suspension on mine but I am keeping it mostly stock besides a couple inches of lift up front to give it a leveled out look.

07 dcsb stock with 265's. I commute in it to school or else I would have added a 2 inch lift but for my purposes its perfect

    Hey All! first post.
I'm all stock, but I gotta lift it. It will be a while, because money, but the oss road suspension just wont cut it for me. I do alot of work out on logging roads and the truck bottoms out with not much weight int the back. When it comes to camping and whatnot Im afraid I'll really be loading her down too much. It does fine without weight, but several things bother me. first mudflaps, they really suck. Next is just scraping diff, skid plate and such. My DCSB has 3 leafs in the back. I'm gonna see if I can get the upgrade on the rear leafs when I go in for the next oil change. Think the dealership will go for it if I just complain about the ride, or do I need more ammo, like driveshaft vibration? How difficult are they on resolving this? Thanks, Sam.

Airing down will really help with traction and a smoother ride off road!

Investing in some recovery gear would be much better than putting money into suspension, etc.

Ive got recovery gear and I would def. air dow if I was on the beach. If youre not, nevermind.

Bone stock 4X4! Not even TRD. I do wish I had the locker but I get in and out of anywhere I want to be just fine. I air down sometimes but rarely. I have only been stuck once and that was some VERY deep snow/ice crust that I really had no buisness going into in the first place. Nothing some shoveling and some sticks/branches for traction couldnt get me out of though. That one was admittedly my fault...

For the most part, I am pretty easy on her. I hunt, fish and camp a lot so I am in the woods frequently. However, it is my daily driver and the gas milage hurts me bad enough.

I dont know how everyone on here can afford all these mods! Maybe someday...

X2^^ just bought a new one and can't justify making my daily driver an off-road machine. Maybe one day when the warranty is out and have a new car, I'll keep this one and mod it
