The question I have is - For those of us like you & me who have coated their frames with something - will they use that as a excuse to do nothing ? How would CRC adhere to our frames if they were to spray it on over our existing coatings ? Thanks for any reply. Curious George.

If they are a crappy dealer, I think they would try to deny to do the CRC coating if you previously tried to stop the rust. If they do the CRC coating, the dealership would have to powerwash the frame anyway.

Thanks for the reply. I spray my frame with linseed oil. It won't come off with power wash - I know this because I power was the frame to get rid of the winter salt and dirt B 4 I spray a fresh coat of linseed oil. BTW it does a good job stopping rust - the only area I have not done is inside the cross members - need a flexible nozzle which I have not found. The rails are now a open backwards C and no problem. The rails on my 2000 were boxed and rusted completely thru from the inside out.

My dealership in VT says they replaced '05 frames as long as a year ago, it's just been kept quiet. It's taken this much time for corrosion and bitching to have their effect. I'm waiting to hear back from corporate as the dealership has sent them paperwork/pictures for approval.

Well, my 'dealer' wouldn't even take a look at the frame. Wouldn't even acknowledge the issue, unless a pamphlet came straight down from corporate. I've contacted corporate, filled out a form on their website, posted on their FB page and just filled out a form on the NHTSA website.

    https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

I suggest everyone fill out a complaint at NHTSA if you haven't already done so.

If I need to have mine looked at, I'll bring a print out of the E0D from the website. I've found dealing with certain companies that bringing some sort of documentation makes them less likely to ignore you.

So Pennsylvania people have to wait until they have authorized the campaign i guess? i logged in and saw nothing under my account for my 2005.

are they trying this remedy in just those few states first to see how it works maybe?

I had my pictures printed out, along with a printout of the service campaign and the guy still wouldn't look at. Kept telling me they wouldn't look and if toyota didn't issue an official recall, I was SOL.

They're probably seeing how much of a $ hit it will cost them in the first round. Providing of course, your VIN matches exactly...

Like I said earlier, I can see them denying more requests than actually fixing them. The guys who do get the compound put on- how are they going to protect the top of the frame, if it's still attached to the body? What about the crossmember above the gas tank and spare tire? Ok, maybe they drop the spare but I don't see them dropping the tank.
I see the first few being real thorough, but as it goes on, I see the compound being put on half-assed.

Another question- they said March 2016 to get the frame looked at. What if your state hasn't been authorized by that time?

Looking to see if anyone has had CRC applied to their frame yet under this bulletin.

I am interested in what they exactly mean by "key" areas of the frame.

Sounds like they are going above and beyond to be cheap.

A owners knows if their frame has holes in it or not.

So we wander in there, with a frame scaling and flaking rust all over it but no actual holes from rust penetration. They will only spray certain areas of the frame with CRC but leave the rest covered in flaking rust??

Think about how it looks if you want to sell the truck with only certain areas coated. It looks like a half ass cheap job which is what exactly they are offering it seems by the campaign wording.

I have been at a dealer when they were spraying some Sequias and first gen Tacomas and it is a thick sludge like coating. Almost like your typical undercoating. It goes on thick and drips a bit actually, have to let the vehicle sit and drip off the excess from what I have seen.

On the older frame coatings, it was like this. I was working on my uncle's 04 Tacoma, and he had his frame coated years ago, and it is still wet in some spots. But they changed the paint they use on new frame coatings, in which it actually dries.

I can say I've been replacing frames on these for about a year or more. The undercoating gets sprayed over the entire frame. Haven't read the instructions on applications yet but the bed should be removed in order to do it right. Ours get done at our body shop so I can't say how it's done.

Part of getting the undercoating done is to extend the warranty of the frame. If it rots out in the future and has been under coated the frame will still be replaced. That's the problem we have been rubbing into with the older trucks. People ignored all the mailers about the deadline and now blame toyota for not covering those trucks.

Wonder if it will come here.. I sure hope so because my truck was originally from saskatchewan where all it does is snow. The frame has seen better days and it would be comforting to know i don't have to spend a couple days trying to make it look better on my own

I know Toyota reads this forum so maybe they understand.
Spray on coating will do nothing to stop frames from being eaten by rust. Problem is, our frames are not one piece of metal. They are sandwich. In that sandwich individual pieces where not painted correctly. So spraying them with coating will make them look better but it will not stop the rust. Frame is assembled badly with large spaces in between metal. If you pour paint in boxed part, paint will travel all way to the back of pickup just in between metals. I know I poured two gallons of POR-15. The only way is to replace frames with ones that are painted better, and coated before install.
