I have a 2014 TRD offroad 4x4 stock, if you want to call it that.
For now I see no reason for a lift and larger tires.
I don't do much wheelin, I will get offroad in the sand here every now and then.

Yeah I finally got new suspension when I felt like a low rider in the truck, and was bottoming out with dirtbikes in the back.

Don't let all the sick builds on Tacoma World stop you from enjoying your truck. Stock 4x4 Tacomas are extremely capable. During World War II they took jeeps with 60 hp, open diffs and pizza-cutter tires through conditions that would make the most well-equipped "overlander" in the world cry in his REI sleeping bag. Just goes to show that driver skill level has more to do with it than the depth of your pocket book (credit limit).

I think it's all about personal preference...I just couldn't imagine not modding it. I've modded my 4Runner, and my Tacoma.

I have a 2010 taco 2x4 trd, level kit and new bilstein 5100 shocks, stock size tires. Don't regret a thing, you don't need to go crazy to have a good time. My truck did just fine stock I just wanted a little extra clearance in the front.

I would bet that there is A LOT of debt on this site. People can't wait to save up for stuff, so they charge it. Not everyone, as I'm sure there are those that can afford to do as they wish, but the majority? I doubt it.

I have a stock 96 2.7 4x4, I've put it through stuff that just shocked the hell out of me. Bug that being said ther is always room for improvements. I plan on a solid axle swap or long travel lift with lockers front and rear.A stock tacoma is good but I Would recommen some good a/t or m/t tires.

Badgers, I don't need no stinking Badgers.

Justify it? Dude have you seen the size of those curbs at the mall? You will need at least 6 inches and 37s.

It's not the size of the lift, it's how good your spotter is. :)

I did not pay cash for my truck, if that's what you mean.

I think most people who can pay cash for their tacomas drive a nicer car, lol.

stuff that makes it better for my use...
I have a stock dc,lb with a shell & last week we were on a simple trail in Sedona Arizona & we scraped a few times on simple stuff so the need for a lift is necessary for the long bed in my opinion. It's on the top of my list at the moment.

    Wait, wut?

Some people buy vehicles for 'show' and some buy them because that's what they want or need. Nice cars can't go into the woods hunting... or tow a boat or camper... or carry toys.

No I'm not talking about the purchase of a Tacoma since most people finance them. I'm talking about all the expensive things like bumpers, suspension, wheels/tires, etc. I bet there's a lot of credit card payments being made on this stuff. There's nothing wrong with that if you can make the payments, but I prefer to save up, pay cash, and be done with it, which is what I'm currently doing.

As for paying cash and having a nicer car? There's no sense in that. I have a Tacoma because I wanted a Tacoma. I would still drive a Tacoma if I won the lottery tonight. It would just have a few more things bolted to it :D

The key to sand is air down. I make it through sand in a 2wd aired down

Airing down is key for sand, but 2wd will not get you through deep soft sand, especially if you have to stop.

A non TRD 4x4 will get you through sand just fine. Yes a locker or limited slip would help is some cases, but not necessary for getting through sand. You just have to be mindful how where and how you stop and avoid turning too sharp. And when you start to spin, don't gas it. You'll just dig in. The right amount of throttle is key. All of this is assuming you are correctly aired down.

And big balls, and no fear of breaking stuff that you can't afford to fix....plus, that was war. I could drive through some insane shit if someone was shooting at me.
