I added a Uniden Bearcat 680 CB Radio yesterday. I'm taking a off-road / camping trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage on summer block leave with some Army friends. We are going to use CB radios as the primary mode of communication between the convoy. I'm really looking forward to using my truck as I'm building it for, and to explore Alaska.

    CbRadio_zps17c6a1d8_ac541f9e0f0855f684c00bf1325054721da1aca0.jpg

Notice that I had to rotate the cigarette lighter plugs to allow clearance in operation with the CB Radio. That was a major pain. TW saved the day again.

    CBAntenna_zps902260b0_f99817e0007040cbe7b80927ac6e9fc01cb483ee.jpg

Antenna permanently mounted to the roof. This provides the best ground plane and best functionality. Not thrilled about the aesthetics, but I can always take it off and run a cap over the plug when I'm not using it. I chose function over form on this one.

The long term goal is to switch over to a HAM radio. I will be able to use the same mounting platform for this, just switch the whip over.

There is only one toyota dealer in Hawaii, so this was a special order. Waited about 3 months for it.

Finally step is to bed-line it to hold up to dirt, gravel, and weather.

Changed the oil with Royal Purple, ditched the sway bar, debadged, buffed out the Nevada pinstripes and washed it.

Dig those rocks out of your tread. I do a walk around before i get into the truck every time. Spot checking the rig, kicking tires, checking for punctures and rocks. Loose things etc.

Those rocks are actually just spots of the polish that got flung off of the buffer. That stuff gets everywhere.

I keep an old screwdriver in the door pocket. I usually dig rocks out when I'm fueling up.

I tightened my U-bolts, I was surprised at how loose they'd become. I've never had a truck that needed it's U-bolts tightened before.

I use either my key or Leatherman to remove them rocks. MTR's pick them up pretty good too.
