I think you did good getting a rewashable filter.
Now you won't have to mess around with oil. K & N's can foul the MAF sensor. I run an Injen warm air intake with a dry rewashable filter and my last fillup was 24.0 mpg... and that's with almost no freeway driving.

A dirty restricted filter can't hurt mpg.

Apparently the sarcasm meters have broke down. And obviously the didn't work as intended (that's means I'm only fucking with you to me, I'm not serious), I wasn't calling you a motherfucker, just having fun, thought you were in on the apparently not so funny joke.

My first post here was on this thread back in 2011, and I did call out the BS about air filters then. see post 372. I'd have handed the 2nd poster his head back at post 3 if I was a member then.

Yes more air can hurt on pre 1996 vehicles. It can run too lean. On any vehicle with a OBD computer, no matter how much potential air a filter can let into the engine, the Mass Air Flow sensor will only let in the amount of air the engine needs to run most efficiently. AFE ProDry will save you money in the long run, about 60K miles after you buy it. I took mine out as I got tired of the noise it makes. The moaning sounds like a cat in "Heat"

And I'll point out that ecomodder doesn't list cold intake or exhaust on the extensive list of mods for fuel efficiency. They do talk about warm/hot air intakes there, which can show better mpg through quicker warmup and lower power.

I have a 2006 double cab 4L V-6, 4 X 4 with a 6 speed manual tranny. The truck is stock, but I did put a K & N air filter in and I am running Goodrich long trail hwy tires. As some others have mentioned, if I drive 75+ I only get 17 MPG, however if I drive under 70 with a really light foot I can get 19 or so, I have never seen over 20. I just live with the fact it is a truck and will get lousy milage. Otherwise it is a great truck.

That's actually pretty good for a big DC 6 cylinder 4x4, because 4x4's have lower final gearing. At 60 mph in 6th gear what rpms is your engine turning?

Hi at 60 RPM is about 2200 I usually drive about 70-75 on the freeway and turning 2500

 

That's pretty close to my street geared 2.7 which turns 2,000rpms at 60 mph.

Just curious what kind of profile pictures you want me to post considering this is a thread on MPG Mods. My scangauge, or LRR tires.

Anything else to add to a thread discussing MPG mods? Tough guy I never thought to attempt to make conclusions based on profile pictures, just saying. Yet you can sum up my life in bold above based on lack of profile pictures, you're a better man than I.

Belly panel anyone?

 

I'm sure that would show some gain.

I've considered a 2-3 inch drop, but here it is 9 years later and I haven't bothered pursuing it, I'd have to use a jack to change oil and might find the ground clearance to low in snow.

 

Lowering it would decrease frontal area which would show some gain. I have an add a leaf and front spacers for the added utility, which I'm not willing to give up for the mpg increase. The belly panel is probably worth 2-3mpg total based on my calculations.

 

Mikey, how have your panels (front and belly) affected road noise?
