DC TRD OR in Canada?

I was reading in another thread (and I did not want to threadjack) that you cannot get a Double Cab TRD Offroad in canada...

Is this true??? Totally smashes my tacoma dreams if it is true.

This configuration is not for sale in Canada. Easy fix though, save thousands, get the truck you want and buy it in the USA.

 

I second that... I did my research a little too late - AFTER I bought and AFTER I joined this site... I paid 31k otd for my 07 DC TRD Sport, could've picked up an 08 TRD OR for that in the US... oh.. mine is a US truck, at that!

Still happy as a pig in shit, though!

 

The first thing that came to mind was getting the truck in the states, but I wouldn't even know where to start... other then driving down there of course

From what I have read here on the formes is that nobody has gotten the truck to convert to showing kilometers instead of miles in the odometer, and what about the warrantie? can I buy one in canada after I bring the truck up?

Will I have to pay any extra fees for buying the truck in the states while living in canada?

 

..can't say I care about having km displayed... Toyota fully covers the warranty, so that's not an issue. You'll have to pay your taxes and a couple of other small fees, but on a 2009 truck, for example, you'll still save a good $10k.

 

Do you guys know why it's not available in Canada? I'm just curious.

 

If coming to the US to purchase your dream truck is too much of a hassle, or just not feasible for you, why not put an ARB air locker in your sport. For that matter a PreRunner, or base 4x4 will also accept the ARB129.


This rear end ("8.4"), and the ARB air locker is no doubt stronger than the factory TRD E-Locker, and will also allow you to have on board air (required to actuate the ARB locker).

 

ya i dont know why we dont have the dbl cab off road my uncle wanted one but he just went with the sport and put bfg a/ts on

You also can't get a DC short box with and auto in Canada. There are many dealers now that will import trucks from the US, and do all the work needed to license them in Canada, for a small fee I'm sure. I bought mine through Jim Pattison Toyota in Victoria.

 

I say just buy a locker and put it on your sport, the first day I had my truck the stock locker got stuck on, had to have the actuator replaced

 

Its really, really easy to buy a truck in the USA. Buying a new one is a little tricky, as Toyota USA will not sell new to Canadians. There is a way to get around this though - I am Canadian and bought a new USA Tacoma. You can go the route I did, or buy a slightly used one and save even more dough. Its really really easy to actually import the vehicle. You just pay $200 to RIV, and your Gst and Pst. The process is easy, look into it.

 

i saw a 07 trd or access cab yesterday. not a dc though for ya

 

Yeah, I see the Access cap ORs a lot, thats why I thought there would be the DC OR.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, the "easiest" so far is to just buy in the US, and the more convienient is to get the sport and put an Air locker in, and then have an air system right in the truck! (i wanted to do this anyways )

I guess the bigger question is, which would be cheaper??
I am not a big DIY guy outside of electronics, so I will probably be having the ARB installed by a shop, could get expensive :S

saw a DC TRD OR short bed last night in kitchener with ontario plates
maybe they are just few and far between?

 

must have been an american truck, thats the only way possible, toyota doesnt actually offer them in canada

 

I'm somewhat pissed about that...I wanted the short box in automatic...settled for standard...I guess I'm getting old.
