My truck is stock, has about 2500 miles on it, and the best I've done is 18.7 mpg and that was babying it.

CA has shitty gas (ethanol mixed in, as well as oxygenated with MTBE) so i think if we had the benefit of 100% gasoline and flat roads we'd do better. Hills and shitty gas is what kills those of us in CA, IMO.

Also, I have heard from a number of Taco owners that the mpg gets a little better after break in... however long that takes... true?

I drive 10 over the highway limit all the time. Get 19mpg 4x4 long bed DC bed cover. I do use synthetic oil. Rotella T6 fully synthetic 5-40 with 1200 ppm zddp. Around $23 a gal at Walmart. GTS Bruce

I absolutely did buy my Tacoma for the gas milage. My last truck got somewhere around 12.5 / 15 mpg (unmodified). I drive quite a bit, needed a truck, and was going broke buying gas.

In my Taco I get 16 / 20+ mpg. I consisteltly drive 10 mph over the limit on the highway and go with the flow around town. I drive reasonably but not like an senior. I also use cruise control as much as possible.

I get 21.9 in summer with about 65% highway. Most highways where I live are 100km/h or 60mph limit, so that helps a lot! Keeping tires @ correct pressure, keeping air filter clean, and most importantly, driving habits. I can't stress that enough. Keeping it under 2000rpm when accelerating will make a night and day difference.

32 is gonna be tough with MI winters, but it looks like you have a good plan.

I agree. Temps will be tough to overcome. I'm looking into systems heaters for this fall.

Sounds like a stupid plan. Not sure if your trolling or not :notsure:

You bought a truck not a hybrid.

My wife gets the best mileage in Tacoma...17.5mpg
I can only get about 14 mpg
Same truck, all stock except BF Goodrich all-terrains.
    2014 DCSB 4x4 3200 miles

On the flip side, 2011 Silverado, 5.3 Motor, 4x4.
Wife gets 15 mpg, I can get 18 MPG.

    I think I drive the Tacoma like a V-8.
She drives the V-8 like a race car.....

I have to agree with this.
Just because I have a truck doesn't mean that I don't care about the MPG I get.
