You can sync with OCF with super high shutter speeds because of it's leaf shutter and on top of that it has a built in 3 stop ND filter so between the two you can do some really cool stuff with just the tiny X100s and an OCF. Pretty awesome.

My submission: Iridescent bird plumage is created by the structure of the feather that refracts and reflects the light. Most blues in birds are actually caused by that feather structure, not any pigments! And there's also the light glimmer in this guys eye, which is cute :p

Wow you all don't make this easy! There isn't a bad picture in the lot. I am not qualified to do a critique of each and every one of them but will say it took me a long time to narrow it down to just one. A few that I would like to comment on:

Chaz I had to look up Chiaroscuro and will be exploring that more. I really like the texture and contrast along with the blue in the carpet in addition to the Chiaroscuro effect. The fact that your wearing a Norwegian split toe blucher says a lot to me, class act all the way. Very well done on several fronts good sir!

Kevin I had no idea that blue in birds was due to refraction and reflection. Yesterday I was under a bridge soon after sunrise trying to shoot some swallows as they came out in the morning to feed. It was pretty dark and I had a hard time keeping ISO low and shutter speed up for hand holding 420mm waving it all over the place, must have looked like I was crazy. Beautiful picture!

TJ your pictures of the mountains once again make my heart skip a beat or two. Outstanding job! In the photography thread I read that your tracks picture might get published and hope it does, you deserve it. As you always seem to do what a great capture.

Several times over the last couple of months I have tried to shoot interesting clouds but never seem to get it right. BabyTaco you did it and then some, I agree with scocar that is badass. Congratulations your the winner this week. Awesome picture!

Yeah learning about those structural colors in birds was the most interesting thing in my bird classes!
Haha, yeah I've been there, chasing swallows and swifts around by waving my 400mm around in the sky :p
    Congrats Gage, Fantastic clouds shot!

    New challenge!

this one is pretty interesting and a lot of rules so pay attention!

    The theme is:

    Sense of Place

Here is a gallery to get an idea what we are looking for.

    http://travel.nationalgeographic.co...t/2014/entries/gallery/sense-of-place-week-8/

    Pretty open really.

    HOWEVER!

    you MUST follow these rules:

Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. High dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are NOT acceptable.

    Good luck!

It shouldn't be to tough. Just gonna require a bit of thought before taking the shot. Plus its summer. Get out of the house!

Took this picture while out camping this weekend. I think it applies to this week's challenge pretty well.finish-20_17b299e39a1df83353b216a9a528b11812fc89bb.jpg
