I may end up doing that at some point. Have to figure out how to remove the "boots" otherwise, I'm just trapping shit around the shafts.

Ultimately I'd like to relocate them like Adam did.

Is it more than just a rubber/polyurethane boot? Is there some sort of metal ring on the boot?

If the are anything like the boots on bilsteins, just use a knife or scissors to open them up enough to pull over bushing end.

Ah, quite different from billie/5100 rears. Not an accordion type at all. Interesting. Similar design to the TRD (yellow & blue) billie front ones.

Just means you'll have to get creative. :p

I'm guessing they might just pop off. Haven't looked at them too closely though.

I'm having Jace install my lift when he gets time. Maybe I throw some washers into the pile of parts.

Mine could have been inflicted when I took it off... I don't know for sure. But you're right, this is the first I've heard anything like that.

Sifted through all my pics and found a good one of the damage to the regular nitrocharger.

Will attempt to get a decent one of the new Nitrocharger Sport, mostly consisting of rubbing a sticker.

Just showing up for the shock discussion. The plastic covers can easily come off if you want them off of the Nitrochargers. I took mine off over a year ago.

Nitrochargers are monotube shocks. Most "quality" shocks are monotubes these days since they have better dampening qualities. I honestly don't know if they could be run upside down (shaft pointed down) but I imagine it wouldn't be a problem. I ran a set of Bilsteins inverted like that and they are essentially the same design as the Nitrochargers.

As for the dents in the shock body, yes it can be an issue. ARB manufactures the shocks with mostly the same dimensions, but just change the valving for different applications. Also, they don't have the Tacoma in Australia so the shocks are designed more around the Hilux and then revalved for the US market Tacomas. So the shock body diameter etc does not change. The Tacoma factory shock locations can cause some contact with the leaf springs when the suspension is flexed really hard. (Jace apparently never flexed his truck enough when he ran the nitrochargers) ;) For 80% or more of the trucks out there they won't ever see a problem with clearance, but for some trucks that get wheeled hard the leaves can make contact and it's a good idea to change the factory shock mounts if possible or add some kind of spacer. It's not a requirement for fitment but a good extra step if you plan to use the full range of travel from your suspension.

FWIW, I have a dent in one of mine that happened before I relocated them. Shock has been rotated in this pic so the dent is on the inside.
    _MG_0796_zps8c4c5759_60f03ae7f920edddbbc187e7b16a5aa50e4254ca.jpg

One last note, the problem exists with other shocks too even the Bilsteins but it happens less frequently because the diameter of the shock body is slightly smaller on the Bilstein shock. Smaller diameter means less fluid, and diminished cooling ability of the fluid in the shock.

Interesting. I'll have to hop under the truck and see if my shocks are hitting the leaf springs. I don't think they have, but I was getting an odd tinging noise when flexing it this weekend.

Also, anybody have a solution for the e-brake cable hitting the top of the leaf pack? Mine is resting on top of it right now and I don't think that can be a good thing when flexing the suspension either.

if u want man? i think i have some tho.... ill do whatever your heart desires :D

mine has done this forever... i helped it by bending the cable guides up a bit and made a spacer for the pivot point....

someone said they made some ebrake lever extensions?

I thought I read they switched to putting it under the leaf springs for the 03-04 models.
