    :)

Wyatt- What year is your Taco? Is it the same as mine wants to be, including the 4WD?

Sean- Thank you for the info on the speedo gears at the trans. I just thought it would be an electrical sender of some sort. I will be at the dealers in the morning to find this.

    Thank you both.

    Len

    :)

His is a 99 automatic. Same engine, but I don't think you have manual hubs like he has. And no problem. I wish it was that simple. But there are gears that you have to swap in the trans for me, transfer case for you. The dealer probably won't be much help, they weren't for me. You can get the gears at a website, let me see if I can find the thread I had posted when I went to 31s

ehhh oh well I get better gas mileage!
I have a 99. The 4wd I have are locking hubs that you have to get out of the truck to lock. The biggest difference between our trucks is that I have a v6. Alot of your gas will probably be that you have bigger tires and your driving style.

Just got my best tank yesterday :) I was hoping to hit 28mpg but fell just shy... Not to bad for a 4x4 v6 though ;) I'm hoping to hit 30mpg after I'm done modding.

    411.9 mi
    14.762 gal (US)
    ($56.54 total for this fill)
    27.9 mpg (US)

Just finished my underbelly panel, and filled up with ethanol free 91 octane so this next time should be close to 30+mpg!!

The likelihood of a blowout from 4psi over max sidewall is probably 10x less like then 20psi under max sidewall.

Bad idea. You're going to end up wearing out the center of your tires MUCH quicker. Whatever money you save on gas will go down the drain as your tires will need replacing more often. I bet it makes for a pretty harsh ride too.

FWIW, I bumped up my tire pressure from 38 to 44 when towing. After I was done, I forgot about the pressure and drove through a few tanks of gas with higher air pressure. It didn't change my MPGs. When I dropped the pressure back down, I still noticed the same mileage.

Taking off my big Yakima roof rack has consistently netted me +2 MPGs. So now it stays in the back unless I need it. Ethanol free gas consistently gets me better mileage. I use an app on my phone called PureGas to locate these stations. My 4Runner came with 265/70/16 tires, and when they were worn out, I just recently replaced them with 245/75/16 tires. Same height tire as stock, but slightly narrower and lighter. I used to struggle to get 300 miles per tank on the highway (usually put in about 15 gallons at every refill), but now I can get 330-340 miles.

Thanks for your concern. I have allot of experience with this and have never had premature wear in the center of a tire. If anything it wears more evenly and saves from premature wear on the outside of the tire. The ride comfort is fine with me :) . We are using the same size tire then. I also just started using PureGas. The more slow driving you do on back roads, the more you will notice improvement from the decreased rolling resistance that higher pressures in a tire bring. In past experiments I've noticed as much as a 7% increase in economy going from 40 to 55 psi. It's not huge, but it is free ;) and I notice better tire wear and performance to boot.

Idk how you can expect good towing with your grill blocked. It's gonna overheat the engine and trans!

I have adequate blocking for non-towing situations as my default. I can add 1''x36'' along the center of the radiator by removing a piece of foam that is currently in use. If those prove to be inadequate the whole grill block comes off rather easily, but I don't anticipate it being an issue with my driving style.

Removing your wipers and spare tire just seems like an unsafe idea.

    JMO of course.

Replacing the wipers takes about 30 seconds. I have road side assistance and 150 miles radius free towing. If I go on a trip I'll toss the spare and a jack in the bed. I will save approximately .3mpg by not having it which is about $48 a year per vehicle based on my calculations. The road side assistance is only $25 a year for both my wife and I to have through our insurance :)
