Regearing and Low range

    its all relative, the 4 cyl starts out with 4.10's so if you go up in tire size the 7.5% then you will need to go up in ratio just as much. So 4.40's

    Lastly, what are the benefits of re-gearing a V6, for example to 4.10 or even down to 4.56/4.88 in terms of power, and off road performance?

    allpro long travel, shackle flip with ome dakars, cruisin offroad bumpers and sliders, 4.88 gears with arb's front and rear, budbuilt skids.
    Its not worth regearing a v6 to 4.10 not enough of a difference from 3.73. Also not worth regearing for 33's unless your putting in lockers at the same time. With a regear you get a good junk of torque back since you gain mechanical advantage. Regearing to 4.56 or lower takes stress off of the driveshaft, transfer case and transmission as well. Also lowers your crawl ratio which is helpful offroad.

    For a 4 cylinder 4WD Tacoma, the gears are 4.10. If I want to put in 33-35 inch tires on a 4 banger, do you suggest 4.56 or lower as well?

    4.56 for 33's and 4.88's for 35's

    Folks typically regear the V6 to 4.56 and the 4 cyl to 4.88.

    To answer your original question - yes you can feel the difference after regearing for off-road and yes it's better.

    That said, if you're looking for a quantum improvement by leaps and bounds, a BIG change - well as you already know the only way to get that is to go to the crawl box.

    I'd say if you're already committed to eventually getting a crawl box - just save your money toward that goal and don't bother with the interim step of regearing.

    I do not plan to put in even more bigger tires (i.e., 37-40 inches).This is because I plan to keep front suspension IFS and have an expedition build.
