So, I approached 16,000 miles (original owner) and decided to crawl under the truck to give everything a once over. You know, just to make sure everything looks ok. As I was inspecting my propeller shaft, I noticed that the zerks had the original factory black paint on them. I have been taking my truck to the dealer for my "free" oil changes and it looks like that is all that they care to do; not surprised. So, now that they joints haven't been touched in 16,000 miles, I decided to march my happy ass to AutoZone to get the necessary grease and a grease gun to fill these suckers up. Here's the situation:

I count 5 zerks: 2 on the front driveshaft and 3 on the rear. Is that all of them? Also, how do you know how much grease to put in these suckers? Is it supposed to ooze out of somewhere?

    Truck: 2013 Off Road 4x4 v6.

Yes, there are 5 fittings, pump until you see a little grease ooze out from the end caps

Just remember, if you pump too much, grease will be splattered on the floor pan and underbelly when you cruise down the road. Its not a real big deal, but I would stop pumping as you just see a bit of grease. I grease at every oil change.

The hardest part about the job is getting the grease to initially fill the flex hose. As far as I know, it's not possible to over grease either. Use a shop rag to clean up any excessive leakage. Greasy clothes you might ask? 2 to 4 ounces of Coca-Cola with the wash and you'll beat that grease like Suga Ray Leonard. It has to be Coke though, not Pepsi or Jolt or whatever you kids are drinking these days, not diet either.

I am using Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I filled them until they oozed out of the zerk which meant all on the insides of the joint = messy. I cleaned it with a paper towel and called it a day.

If it's oozing out of the zerc then you didn't have the grease gun attached tight enough. It should ooze out of the rubber seals on the bearing caps...

I just used regular grease and was told not to use moly or synthetics cause they said it was thinner and could shoot out easier from the seals.

Well, shit. It only did that on one. I guess I will try again. Should there be A LOT of pressure built up before it comes out of the seals? Maybe I need to put more oomf into it.

Don't mind the burnt grease smell the first times you drive if too much is put in or not wiped off completely. It's the grease getting flung onto the exhaust.

Just attach the grease gun hose and hold it firmly with your hand while you pump the grease into it. You will eventually see grease oozing out from the rubber seals of the bearing caps. Keep pumping until it looks clean, then clean up the mess!...

Not sure about your grease gun, but mine has an adjustable tip that can recieve different size zerks. (I'm aware as to how that sounds) If I don't have it adjusted right the grease just oozes out around the zerk.
