What's the point of VW's having diesels?

Maybe because you have the 5 speed?
    I'd rather have the efficiency.

My dad's 6.4 used to get better mileage with the trailer and tractor behind it than without. And my mom just wants another truck so why not have another diesel in the family? lol

We towed a portable saw mill from east texas to SanDiego, we average 8 MPG across west texas at 65 MPH, when they person we hauled it for picked it up and towed it back to his shop (~300 miles) he averaged 18 MPG, including going over the grapevine.
If we had his efficiency it would've saved us more than a few dollars. (Somewhat special circumstances, I know, but there's still a point)

I see your point. But most people with diesels don't even use them for what they're meant for. I don't see this little 5.0 Cummins being a power based diesel. I think it'll be more of an economy move.

    I just don't see it comparing to the 6.7s, 6.4, 5.9 etc.

    What makes you say that?
5.0 is a smaller V8 diesel than what ford and chevy are offering.

well tundra is only rated for 10,400, so it doesn't need as much power as the 2500/3500/4500's do, the f-150 is rated for 11,000.

Fords reliable? Haha funny. I like the way fords look, especially the older ones, but everything else nope. And they seem to be the easiest truck to steal. Seems like everyone gets them stolen.

My dad has an 01 7.3 that runs like a top. Mom had a 95 cobra that ran like new and they just recently got rid of an 04 Explorer that ran great as well. It's funny that everyone bags on ford/dodge/Chevy .. They all run the same and they all have their share of problems.. It all comes down to fan boys just like Toyota. The Tacoma isn't some God given vehicle and just by reading threads on here you can tell they have their share of problems as well.

    I didn't know that
I didn't know the tow capacity until I looked it up.

The 7.3 is very reliable, the only drivetrain issue is the trans is weak.

The 6.0 is reliable with a EGR delete, as long as you don't mod the 6.0 the heads are fine, and the trans is very reliable.

Everyone steals them because they want them.

If you buy a luxury car.....I would hope mileage is not a big concern.
