Okay yall, I hate to interrupt your conversation, but I have a question or two. I put ome dakar leafs on my 04 regular cab. At full flex shock mount to shock mount is about 25". Ome nitrochargers part# 60062 fully extended are 587mm which converts to 23.1". These are the shocks recommended for these leaf springs, but they are 2" too short at full flex. Is that right or am I missing something?

ome shocks are shorter than what the springs actually can droop. Its ARB's way of limiting the suspension for the majority of their customers=daily driving. they work just fine, they only limit 2 inches of droop. if you are looking for more of an offroad worthy setup, throw soe different shocks on. be aware, youll need a brake line for sure

Okay, so I'm not crazy then thanks! So would some 10" travel Bilsteins be the way to go? These are the specs:

    Part Number: 33-185552
    Old Part Number: F4-BE5-6248-H5
    Extended Length: 25.93"
    Collapsed Length: 15.91"
    Travel: 10.02"
    Valving: 255/70
    Shaft Diameter: 14mm
    Mounting: Eye/Eye

Extended and Collapsed are right in line with what my numbers are on my truck using a forklift to take measurements. And yes, I'll be getting an extended brake line. I've cut off the tailpipe under the leaf. I'll fab up an extension for the rear brake proportioning valve. Other than that I think I'm set. Thanks for the quick reply, sir!

Or change the shock mounts so you can use all the travel with the same shocks.

Yessir, that's one of the many projects I'm looking into for the future! I know these trucks have issues with the leafs hitting the shocks when flexing, so when I get to that point that will be done. Right now, I'm rolling around on one 5100 shock on the passenger side because .... well....when I bought the truck it had one 5100 and the driver's shock was factory, lol! Put the new leafs on and the stock shock was waaaay too short.

So now I've got to find a shock that will work with what I have atm. So I'll get some shocks and then buy some tubing to build sliders. Then bumpers, then winch, then wheels and tires and then and then....so much to do!

I've read this whole thread over the span of a few months and I've finally got around to installing my lift. Is there somewhere in this thread that lists the torque specifications for all of the nuts and bolts? The two main being the U-bolt nuts and the nut on the leaf pack (I added the AAL to it).

Adam and i beat this topic up pretty good recently(forget what thread), if u want ideas on how to relocate shocks, check out some of our builds. lots of different ways to do it.

i believe i ran the 552 billy 5125s at first. if u havent already check out downsouthmotorsports for shocks. they have a chart that makes it easy. i like to over shoot my droop measurement and undershoot my compressed. better be safe than use the shock as bumpstops/limit straps :D

    i like those ome stickers^

My 02 has the ebrake cable on top of the axle. I just made little extensions for the pivots out of a small piece of angle from Lowes to get the cable up off of the springs.

    Hello,
I'm looking to swap out the worn suspension on my '99 xtra cab with the 2.7L that has been my daily driver for the last 16 years. I don't really need much, if any, lift- the truck usually sits on 235s or 245's.

From reading through this thread, the 880's are the shortest springs and provide about 1" lift?
Which set of leaf springs would be recommended for minimal lift? Occasionally the truck carries 500+lbs. But I'd rather aim at having a smooth ride on washboard/rocky roads.

With a short lift, would a diff drop/different cv joints/control arms be recommended?

    Thanks

The 880s should be stock height springs. But I've also read that they are 1.75-2.25" in height: http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/sus_Tacoma.html

Pair them with the Dakar leaf packs. If you notice that it doesn't handle the 500+ lbs well, you can always add the AAL.

    Do you have a topper?

You probably do not need the diff drop. You CV angles should be the same as stock so you're fine there as well. You would only need new CV joints, UCAs, LCAs, etc if they need replacing. But your lift won't have any bearing on that.

Anyone able to find torque specs for the OME setup? I've read that the u-bolts need to be re-torqued after about 50 miles or so, but I don't know what that torque spec is. Also like many of you I added an AAL to the leaf pack and was wondering if there is a torque spec I should tighten down the pack to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. As of now I've tightened everything to a point where I felt I wouldn't strip anything or break anything.

I think I torqued the u bolts to like 90. Don't quote me on that.

Per the FSM, u-bolt torque spec is 90 lb-ft.

The leaf pack center bolt is 33 lb-ft.

Front eyelet bolt is 116 lb-ft.

Rear shackle bolts are 67 lb-ft.

Shock absorber bolts are 53 lb-ft.

Not the greatest photo but, 881s in the front, Dakars in the back, freshly installed on my extra cab V6 w/ 265/75R16s:

The 880s should be a little bit shorter. Going with Dakars in the rear, you might have some rake. Not sure how much the 2.7L will settle the front springs in.

    Pretty much stock right now
880s gave about an inch and a half lift on my '01. Now that they have worn in a few years, probably closer to an inch. This with Wheeler's 5 leaf springs is a decent ride. The lift has been moved to my '03, which has a completely different ride than the '01. Don't know why, they are the same cab type and drivetrain. But the '01 was the better of the two.

I have regularly overloaded these springs, and they keep coming back for more. They give about an inch and a half lift to the rear.

Thanks a lot for the info! Should I retorque the u-bolts after driving them for a bit?
