New tires on spray painted wheels?

Just a month ago i spray painted my stock wheels black, but now it is time for some new tires. Does anyone know if i get new tires put on if it will scratch the paint off the rims?

Probably with spray paint, but I don't think it would with a powdercoat. You can just touch up on it if it does, since you rattle-canned it.

The only thing is i have a clear coat on it. Can i still touch it up over the clear coat.

 

The powdercoat on my $6000.00 mountain bike is chipping. Actually, all of the frames that I have that are powdercoated have chips in them. It seems the painted ones with the clearcoat are holding up better. The raw carbon fiber and titanium ones are holding up the best.

 

I'm not talkin down to it cause I've rattlecanned plenty of projects in my day, however, considering that this is a 2 nd gen Tacoma, a newer if not brand new truck, you may want to consider a more durable way to alter your wheels' appearance. If you can afford it, and it's cheaper than just buyin new wheels, I'd go with powdercoated. Just be sure you find someone with references so you can look at his past work before dropping any money.

I installed my most recent set of tires myself using a powered mounter...with NO previous experience and did not scratch a single one. Good tires are FAR more important that flawless rims...so get the new rubber put on and touch with the rims if anything happens to them...

Powdercoat WILL chip (maybe not on the machine- but ding it off a rock or a curb and see what happens) and it will be more expensive to fix.

Why would you spend MORE money for something you don't need??

So many people poo-poo rattle cans. I've had my rims painted for more than a year and I finally touched them up in the past month because of a years worth of trail damage...but I WAS able to touch them up.

 

It will probably chip due to the machine that puts the tire on comes in contact with the actual wheel. So just wait till you get them home put alittle tire shine on your tire and than touch up where it got messed up. And just take one of those green brillow pads and scuff it all up and the paint should stick just fine. No need to completely sand it back down.
