Does anyone know how to disable the DRL off switch on the indicator stalk on a 2014 model? I am taking my truck to Canada and they require that if the vehicle has DRL that can be switched off that the switched is permanently disabled - ie the DRL are on when the engine is running. The 2014's have the ability to turn the DRL off on the indicator stalk, thus can any one tell me how to modify the wiring so the DRL are on when the ignition is on regardless of switch position?

I did search but all the posts seem to be on how to disable DRL - I need the opposite!

I found a copy of the wiring diagram for a 2013 but still not sure what I need to do? Or if wiring is same as 2014.

    Appreciate if anyone can assist.

    Pretty much stock
13 has the off switch also (at least mine did) , i would assume you could order a Canadian stalk or a pre 13 us stalk.

I was hoping to do a wiring fix ie install a jumper rather than replace the whole stalk as they can be pricey. I would have thought I could put a jumper between the DRL on and DRL off positions on the switch but not too sure? Any auto electricians out there who could offer advice?

Otherwise like you guys suggest I'll do a swap of the entire stalk for a pre-2013 or Canadian version.

if I had the ewd I could tell you the colors, but anyhow

disco battery, pull airbag, tape clockspring so it doesn't unwind,
    take off stalk,

get a mutimeter and see what wires are involved when you switch on drl's
then jump them together. bang. done. the only way I could explain this easier
is if I told you exactly which colors to jump, but I don't have the EWD....

super-hobo method is superglue a pin or nub, and a stop, on the stalk itself so
it cannot be turned completely off. that might not pass canada inspection though

Thanks for the info 127.0.0.1. I can figure out the wires as you mention with a multimeter. A couple of questions - when you say pull airbag what do you mean? Also where is the clockspring you mention? - I will search to see if there is a thread on getting access to the stalk as upon quick inspection its not too obvious how all the plastic around/below the steering colum is secured - any advice welcome.

All of the Canadian Tacoma DRL are just the yellow turn signals that stay on and not the actual head lights.

There should be a cheap harness that you can buy to tie into. At least that's what I did when I brought up a couple of Subaru STi's from the US and needed to turn on DRL's.

pull airbag means you are disconnecting battery and opening up steering wheel to get to the stalk. might need to pull clockspring off (that will need to be taped so it doesn't unwind)

disabled DRLs disabled seat belt chime disabled the key in the ignition with door open buzzer Installed Illuminated 4wd switch circuit board Marker lights Flashing with turn signals Toggle switch ABS Disable Fog Lights on AnyTime Mod Changed to Yellow bulbs in the Fog Lights Converted interior lights to leds Installed oem roof rack Installed Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags and Daystar Cradles for the air bags Added oil catch can Relentless Tailgate Protector installed
127.0.0.1 AKA 1 , could OP just use a multimeter and see what two wires are used to switch the DTRLs on and off, BUT do it near the bottom of steering column in the harness so he wouldnt have to take all of that other stuff apart...........then just as you said he could connect the two wires together thus eliminating the stalk switch on the steering column. Some testers can as I sure you know ,can just kinda pin prick the wires so your not really damaging the insulation.

absolutley can be done all underneath where the plugs are, I just cannot point to the exact one or define the colors....or else I'd post the actual plug number to make it easy

Slow down, does canadian Tacomas have a different lighting set up? Just get it.
Also ask your Canadian or US dealers if they can just program it in. Your truck is only a 2013 Im sure Toyota has provisions to convert it.

Unfortunately, the US model has an off position for the DRL on the indicator stalk, hence a reprogram won't do it. Seems my options are ask the dealer to replace with the Canadian stalk which does not have an off switch (pricey), modify the switch or put a jumper in the connector - just need to figure out how to gets the harness/ plug without removing the steering wheel, I'm not too comfortable removing the airbag.

I pulled the airbag and steering wheel on my Bronco with no problems. Some will tell you to pull fuse first. I did not. My Haynes manual stated that they did not cover steering wheel removal because of airbags. I do not really think it is a problem.

If you mean that you pulled the airbag without disconnecting the power, you are riding on the edge. If that thing goes off while you are pulling it it will kill or cause severe damage to you.

Just disconnect the main battery to disable the airbags. You should always disconnect the battery when ever messing with any wiring anyway.
