It can be used with windows on or off on the highways. It's built by the same company that makes the Jeep soft tops so should act the same as one of those. As far as water leaks that I don't know yet but from what I've read there can be a little leakage on the front corners where it meets the bed. I don't think it will be too servere but I did have a small gap when I set mine up to check the fit. I plan on using small pices of foam to fill in the gaps when I get it set up this spring

Moving to Okaloosa, Florida in July, convinced my wife buying a bestop softop would be a great way to keep things in the truck dry on the drive down. Just have to find a one at a reasonable price. So far Ebay has them for $518, not sure if i'd trust that. Some of you said you got yours for $465?! I want that deal.

Just be weary who you buy from. I cant remember what site i bought mine from, it was great price but they had zero customer service. I ended up getting one of the wrong covers that Bestop sent out. I called Bestop and they took care of me, excellent customer service.

I have had a few issues with mine but nothing major IMO. One of the rivets on the middle support bar failed, so drilled them out and replaced them with bolts. I also keep a bar of aluminum angle clamped across the front bulkhead to prevent the front window from pulling loose on the freeway.

Hi, Just got an '06 and a Bestop and would love to see some of those build picks and pick your brain on how you did it. Will give you full credit. Thanks very much.

Thanks to everyone on this forum, I recently did my own 2.5 inch lift and got a bestop to celebrate my '06 rolling over 130k...decided to keep her for a while longer yet.

I thought I'd post some pictures of the top, along with some closeups of the back-rail. I've seen some confusion on how exactly to install it, and it took me a few minutes to get it right.

    Here's the truck:

So, the instructions aren't all that clear on how far back the top should go. They tell you how far forward, but really the back is the part with the smallest room for error. Here's mine after I adjusted it to fit better:

Here's the rubber gasket actually hitting the tailgate, moving the whole thing back helped achieve this.

And here's how far back the tabs on the rails go when it actually fits. I should note that I managed to lenghten the rails by 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch by bolting them together while using the maximum length that the holes allow (they aren't perfectly circular).

This is the back window bar installed and hooked into the side rails, note the orientation:

When you unhook it and it hangs loose from the rear window, this is the orientation it hangs in before you turn it 90 degrees to close it:

And one last bonus image, the sleeping platform I built last weekend, used carpet and padding...luxurious.

We had a 1 inch rain a few days ago and the seams had a couple of drops, got some seam sealant that needs to go on and I think this bestop will be good to go. Hope the pics help someone!

Ordered my besttopper today. I was torn between the soft topper and the best topper, but I'm only going to have it on when camping, and I figured the windows would be better to have. We'll see...

Do yall think the Bestop Supertop that is made for a 2nd gen 5ft bed would work/ fit on a 1st gen with a 5ft bed?

Ive been looking and I cant find a Soft top w/ Windows on the sides that will fit on my 2001 DCSB (5ft bed).

I measured my neighbors 2013 DCSB and both beds are 5ft long. The only difference is that his bed is around 1 inch wider.

1st gens dont come with a track system like second gens, so if the track is needed to install the Bestop then im out of luck.

Let me know what yall think

Mine uses clamps that fit into the track system. You could permanently attach the tracks with bolts if you don't mind putting a few holes in the bed rails. I would call Bestop and see if they offer anything for your application first. Here is their customer service number: 1-800-845-3567. Good luck.

What are the specs on your rims? Offset and what not? I like that stance and will be buying some wheels this week. Do they scrub at all with those wheels being so deep.

How long is the install? And okay for a 1-person job? Is it the kind of thing your remove when you get home, or leave it up all the time?

    Clamp into the bed rails.

I did mine by myself. Hardest part is getting the windows in. Make sure you put the fabric on when it's warm. It'll stretch a little easier.

anyone know the part number for the main top canvas on a 5ft bed? Bestop customer service is awful as I haven't gotten a response from them in 3 weeks since they basically blew me off.
