What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

how bad was the install? cause it dosnt look like an individual joint it looks like the whole assembly has play like its loose or something

 

The best thing to do to see if your LBJ are bad is to get a dial (forgot what they are called) and test for play. If it is more than .5mm combined up and down, you should replace them ASAP.

I couldn't get an alignment till I replaced them. Went home and checked them I had .35mm of play. Took it to a different place and aligned just fine

 

It was easy with air tools. There are three bushings, one on the passenger side, easy to see. One on the driver side that is harder to get at. Finally one right in the middle. I think it took me 4 hours to do it by myself.

How is everyone carrying their spare tire? I hate having mine under the bed as it becomes a great place to catch road salt.

 

Do it! I love mine. It's kinda like having a mini sun attached to your bumper that you can illuminate whenever you want to play god. Rigids are nice but you won't get the distance you get with a halogen or an HID setup.

 

There's any number of things you can do.

I had mine on a CBI tire carrier, I liked it but I didn't care much for the way it blocked the entire rear window



So I cut the bed off and made my own

 

Had mine chained in the bed for a while. Now it's back under in the carrier. Plan on standing it vertically on the right bedside held down with a big strap or two and d-rings.

Your rack's body should not move. If you can see the whole rack moving, you need to start there. The bushing were under $50 (I don't remember exactly).

 

ratchet strap FTW.. Cheapest solution IMO. (it works better with the tire vertical but it makes it so you can't see great out of the rear window. Strapping it angled like that it will come loose every once and a while but is pretty sturdy for the most part..)

 

Do you have the HID versions? I don't really need the distance of the spots. That's why I'm leaning toward LEDs. I do plan on driving the Alcan one day though, so the extra distance would be nice.

I got a SOS Concepts spare tire carrier/bed bar to carry mine.

No I have the halogen versions that are 100w. They throw light every bit of 300-400 yrds down the road. I have them paired with two plasmaglow 4" LED fogs (>3k Lumens each) and between those and the light force.....I light up tree line to tree line on the back roads and on the highway....almost the same width (tree line to tree line) and get 400 yrds vis to the front.

 

what are you guys using to replace the air intake double wire hose clamps? Mine are getting super rusty and just twist when I screw them. Not sure if I should get the generic metal ones that are flat, was worried they would cut into the plastic intake hoses, but any double wire hose clamps online are either super expensive or in bulk orders of thousands.
