@003 Tacoma 2.4L Xcab steering wheel shake

Last 8,000 miles or so the steering wheel rapidly shakes back and forth going at about 70 - 80 mph on some freeway that is made of concrete sections. Worse on a curve - doesn't do it on smooth roads and it stops at about 80 mph. Truck has 51.700 mi on it. Wheel bearings were done at 30,000 and it has been checked for shake in the tie rod ends and the bearings and the original shocks which all appear OK, Tire pressure has been checked. It has never been in an accident and tires aren't cupped.

 

Chris, it doesn't do it at any speed on smooth roads.

 

Numerous stretches of roads in Southern Calif on the freeways, 14 to LA area is the one I am on the most.

 

Are you running OEM wheels and tires?

Do you get a similar shaking when hitting bumps, holes, etc., except on that particular road?

 

Wheels are the original and the tires are Kumho same size as OE. Shake is on a number of concrete constuction SC freeways. Worse around a curve in the road.

 

Well it seems that Chris was right, rotate and balance seems to have solved the problem. I must admit I was fooled by the fact the it did not do it on smooth roads.
