Am I on the right track?

Well I am about to run 5100s all around with 884s, I am in pursuit of a good ride with my lift. I am currently lowered on worn suspension so have a very rough ride, what would you recommend for me to be comfortable? Stock would be an improvement for me but I want to ride better than stock. Also, if the ride is better it can negate the effects of high PSI for mpgs if I choose to do that.

Have a 2" rear AAL to install, used, most likely sagged or about to sag. I would like to be level but I know the rear will one day sag giving me a bro lean. So it is best to maintain a little rake.

Back to the question: What setting should I be on for all the desirables mentioned above?

 

I dont know a whole lot about pairing 5100s with ome coils but i know you shouldnt preload them, meaning set it on the 0 setting on the 5100s

sorry, i see how that was confusing, you should set them at the 0 setting, thus not preloading the coils

 

Could you explain why that is? And not really confusing, I would assume correctly if I had to, I'm just difficult at times.

I was planning on setting them at at least .85" for some lift. Eager to hear this.

 

Im not 100% sure but from everything ive seen you dont want to preload the OME coils when you use them with 5100s, but i dont run that and have never directly asked anyone

 

^^^^ reason being the ome coils are what is achieving the lift not the shock like when using stock coils and since the ome coils are longer/taller than stock coils they can be difficult to compress when trying to set them at .85 on the billys and they will also ride very rough as they are not made to be run preloaded( set at .85)


As for the ops original inquary ...

I just installed 5100 ome 885 coils and icon upper uniballs in front with toytec aal and ubolt flip in back and ride is noticeably firmer( rides similar to stock half ton trucks) however with the cost/gain being a little better in terms of lift gains

But the icon setup you dicribed with handle a lot more than Billie's ever will such as aggressive offroading

But as the IP did state with mild offroading the billies will be perfect for you as they are the majority of lifted trucks on this site(mine invkused )

 

I'm sorry I threadjacked so 05Taco do you know how much lift 884s provide?? I wanted to get coils so that I could achieve more lift with a better ride. What would ride better, 5100s at 1.75 or using 884s?

 

Well it does depend on what you mean by better? Mine is stiffer than stock and I like it so it's better that way

With my access 4x4 I got about 2.75 in the front and 3 inch in the rear with 885 and toytec aal


If you want more of a factory ride the closest you will get with your double cab is 884 coils set at 0 however on a DC you might only see 1 or 1.5 lift so 885 or 886 would be a better optionto gain 2.5 of lift but will ride stiffer than stock


885 with atop plate spacer if what i would run to gain the full 3 inch If that's what you are after but then your getting into need new UCA territory

Its a great ride, I really like it and Im glad I went with that instead of OME or Toytec.

 

By better I mean smoother. I drove a friends '13 DC Sport 4x4 and it felt like heaven compared to my suspension. No jerking around, you know, like gliding over the road

I want to go as high as possible without needing new UCAs. So I am guessing 2.5". If 884s ride so rough with any other setting than 0", why do people say to do that?

Is there a way to get 2.5" of lift and still ride smoothly (using 5100s)? Even a stock ride is fine I suppose, as long as it really is as good as stock and not just close

 

Having a floaty ride like you want can't really happen with that much lift

Its either going to be big and ride stiffer like a truck or keep it stock with the squishy ride kinda hard to have both

 

I will have to deal with the ride then. I would rather ride like a truck and look like a truck than look like a car and ride like a jackhammer.

 

Got my lift installed today. Looks great. Rides amazing slight stiffer but not in a bad way at all. Steering feels a little loose bit not bad. Might get my local shop to do an alignment and may get some lr ucas if needed. Will take pics tomorrow!

Fox 2.5 with res shocks(rears 2.0 with remote res). 2 inch aal. Lift is around 2 inches all around.
