What is that? You drive your vehicle part way into the tent?

For ground tents have you looked at canvas tents? Heavy duty to the max! Kodiak and Springbar are good to go.

A few years ago I scored a 10x10 Kodiak VX tent for $430. Very happy with the tent. It has served our family of four, very well. :D

humor and sarcasm over the internet failed.... first time for everything :)

I have a great REI ground tent right now. My next tent will be a RTT.

Looks like a hippie Euthanization Center. Lure the hippies into the "habitat" and back the vehicles up to the correct locations and pump it full of Carbon Monoxide.

Springbars are great ground tents. They're made here locally in Utah and I've had lots of experience with those. If you're a ground tent guy and want something very durable it's a great option. I've gotten to the point where the only time I will every use a ground tent again is if I'm backpacking and then I use my REI HalfDome. Otherwise its a RTT. The RTT is just way too convenient and comfortable to bother with a ground tent ever again.

For overland / back country travel sure! However, it's all relative and depends on the application. There are times I just have to bust out laughing when I go to a campground and I see RTT folks and they are stuck attached to their vehicle and not really camping in their site, not even on dirt for that matter.

Solution. Fits where any family sized ground tent will. Not "tied down" with the vehicle. :)

All that said, I try to stay away from large organized RV camgrounds if I can help it. If there is pavement or concrete within 50' of your "campsite" you're doing it wrong.

I still prefer a hammock over the rtt but would glady take either over a ground tent.

You're running that tight on space?

Not really tight on space, just one takes up a lot less room and is 10X easier to store because of it.

uscg2008 found this already. I'm sharing this in a couple of different places where I did a lot of my reading and research. If you're in the over-40 club, in Northern Virginia, and follow DCLB's, you might see some cross-posting!

Kind of behind the ball here, but here are my pics from the Overland Expo 2014.

Cruised into Mormon Lake on Friday, scored a nice camp spot by the back 40. Thanks to Alex (tan FJ) and his crew for inviting us in...

I know some of you are using Mr. Heater Portable Buddy to heat your RTT. Do you guys have any pictures how you are using it? I can't figure how to , or where to put it without burning the tent.
