So I ended up going the in-cab snorkel route - cost me ~$40

Started with a 3" hole saw through the area of the fender were the antennae went into the cab.

I used a 3" aluminum flange that I sealed with RTV on the inside and out.

From there I took the stock intake off ran a 4" section to the original outlet in the fender, reduced it to 3" and ran that back to my new hole in the cab.

No complaints so far. Noise is very minimal and not even noticeable by me unless I am concentrating on it. Anyone jumping in my car wouldn't notice at all.

All in all I am happy with how it turned out. The pics below are the rough setup and I will be dialing it in a little bit cleaner soon.

Even with a fresh filter (less than 3K miles ago) it was literally clogged with dust and dirt just from a few off road trips. I even found 3 larger rocks in the intake also when I removed it. With it hanging in the fender (especially with the fender covers off) that intake acts like an ice cream scoop for rocks and dirt and water. I will feel much better overall with this setup and have no more concern of water crossings.

"In the cab" as in if the A/C was on it would be a true Cold Air Intake? I wonder if the air temp sensor reading outside temps with the intake ingesting different temp air will throw the Long term Fuel loops off?

I guess it is a true cold air intake (when the AC is on :) ) I think the temp sensor for the display in that car is different then the temp sensor of the intake which happens within the intake itself.

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.

Yep for custom fabrication at $65.00 an hour it would be over $500.00 to build one I don't see the interest for the R&D for a production model so it is what it is. the in the cab design looks good and cheap!

Thanks. I understand where your cost come from and I have seen your work and it looks top notch and I know one off's are much more than a production type.

I went this route because is was easy, cheap and in the end I am not a fan of the look of snorkels.

The guys in Australia do some pretty simple designs also - straight metal pipe with rubber elbows/fittings:

Yeah I've seen those type of snorkels and i wouldn't do that or at least have my name on it :) If i were to built a custom snorkel it would flow with the body lines of the truck

i agree - i could have built that with less than $100 in aluminum pipe and rubber elbows - functional but not pretty

    http://intakehoses.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=ITN

Ill give some long term reports on the in cab setup - with the fender on it not even visible on the truck so definitely a +1 for the stealth look.

Could you take a picture from the inside? I have thought many times about doing this and am curious as to what it looks like on the inside.

Not the easiest place to snap a good shot but it's on the passenger side on the right kick panel - behind the glove box. Photos taken with glove box removed and this is a gen 2 2007 Tacoma (I know wrong forum)

On the inside unjust cut a little bit of the sound deadening material around the 3" hole.

I'm trying to track down some photos I saw a while back of a green 1st gen with glass fenders and the Safari Snorkel. Actually turned out really clean. I'll see if I can find them.

Thanks adam. I want them to work together if they can. If it doesn't look clean then I'm just going to run the glass like we talked about
