needing help!

I want to clean the engine on my 1999 Tacoma but I have no idea what to cover or where
I'm a woman that have to sell the car and I want it to look nice
I don't have the $ to pay someone to do it so I'm going to do it myself
By the way I'm a 70 years old I will like to see some pictures please Thanks!

 

Buy a can of stuff called GUNK ENGINE cleaner or even better...GUNK ENGINE BRITE from any auto parts store or even Walmart. Use it on a warm, but NOT HOT engine. Spray it all over the engine, the radiator, the transmission and the fire wall. Every where. (Your Tacoma wont mind getting its electrics wet.) No need to cover anything. Let it sit for a few minutes and hose it off completely. The engine will look GREAT.

 

DON'T use a pressure washer under the hood... that'll push water places water shouldn't go!!

But it might not run

You don't want liquid getting in the spark plug holes, fuse box, or alternator.
At the very least, cover or seal those up.

 

I think my Tacoma would run submerged in a lake. As long as the components are in good shape (cap and rotor, wires) a little water should be fine. The Gen one would be a little more prone than the Gen two with coil packs.
