    A couple months ago we had a guy at work accidently inject grease into his hand . Not going to post a picture but it was a nasty nasty injury .
    He is still off work and not expected back for a long time .
    With this said , here is a link for the new guys as well as some of the old guys to using your new grease gun properly and safely:D
    Wouldnt want to see a fellow TW member going through the above mentioned accident when there is a great safety link available for us to read .

    So I cleaned all the zerks with brake cleaner and put the grease gun hose on them solid. When I started pumping the grease it all seemed to be seeping out of the end of the hose and not going into the zerk. Does it sound like I was doing something wrong, or were the things full already? Is there some adjustment I have to do to the end of the hose to make it fit the zerks better? I'm a first timer with this. Any advice is appreciated.

    Getting there...

    First time I tried it, I made the same mistake. I was doing it in the dark and was worried I would damage the zerk. Tried it again the next morning and realized I wasn't pushing hard enough. You should feel a dull click when you push the coupler onto the zerk.

    hid head lights, hid fog lights, always on fog lights, bed lights
    I did this today. Had to move the truck a little to get the zerks in position. The 3 rear are easy, but the two front ones are PITA, there is hardly any room to get my finger in to tighten the coupler.

    Also, the rear middle one, I noticed the grease seems to be oozing back out of the zerk. Is this normal?

    I must have used up like 4-5oz of grease.

    what brand grease is everyone using? I have only read of Mobile one in this thread but I know there are tons of other kinds/types/brands.
    I am just going to pick one grease and do all zerks with the same grease personally.
    I was going to go with the Lucas Red and Tacky grease. Will this work? Anyone use it? First time ever greasing my zerks so a newbie to this.

    yes, use the link below. I flush/fill mine every time.

    mobil 1 synthetic on my tie rods, ball joints, upper controll arms, and drive line. 94k on my axle with zero issues. little slop but that's due to abuse not lack of grease or the grease itself.

    Make sure the grease nipple has the ball in the middle of it. If it's missing you will need to replace that fitting. Only grease coming out should be by the rubber seals which is normal

    I pumped till the clean grease came out of the seals, but that one zerk had grease oozing back out. I'll be changing oil soon and I'll check the zerk. Maybe the ball just got displaced. My truck only has 58k and this was the first time I greased the u joint.

    58k - way overdue. I do mine at every oil change. It only takes a few min's once U have done it a few times and know what U R doing.

    Poke the ball with something to free it up. I use a small Allen key. Grease it. Poke it some more. grease it again. You waited way to long and it prob got corroded a little. Like George said I'd do them every oil change or tire rotation.

    "every oil change or tire rotation" Totally agree - Every 5,000 for me - I use Syn oil - OCI 5,000 and rotate tires every 5,000.

    If you can take the time to order it on line, the best grease ever is from a product called PRO LONG and the results are amazing compared to All other greases on the market.

    I ended up getting the Lucas "Red and Tacky grease" at the auto parts store yesterday. Anyone used it? They were out of the Mobile one syn that I have read a lot of people use.

    I was told to not use synthetics cause someone said it is to thin and will fly out so I just used regular old grease from an auto parts store.
