    There have been numerous posts about nitrogen filled tires. What is the overall opinion? I've had 2 service mgrs. suggest i have it, both are about the same price. Is it worth it as far as wear on tires & mpg?

    From what I understand, regular air theoretically breaks down the rubber from the inside of the tire, weakening it and causing wear. Practically speaking, I would think you'd be changing tires because of tread wear long before this ever occured. As for MPG benefits, I can't imagine it would even be noticeable, but I admit that I've never used Nitrogen so I am speaking with a big of ignorance on that.

    Personally, I can think of a thousand things I'd spend my money on before nitrogen for my tires.

    "Regular" air is 79% nitrogen. Do you really think 21% more is going to have any influence on tire life?

    I've had Nitrogen in my tries since about 1000 miles... I now have almost 8000... I got it free when I had my new tires installed...

    Temperature variance doesn't effect pressure nearly as much... They have a more stable feel when lateral force is applied (cornering), and I routinely get ~21 mpg... I just got 22.5 on a 600 mile trip from Divide, CO to Telluride, CO and back... through the mountains...

    Seems to work for me...

    Never noticed a diffrence, G35 or Tacoma. G35 had nitro filled tires when I got new rubber, same with the taco. Filled with reg air after that... no diffrence to me. Like chris said.... air is already 79% nitro.

    Spacer lift, bumper stickers, ejector seat, etc.
    I use "regular" air and I don't have a complaint. Just run them at normal PSI and you'll be fine.

    Whatever gas is filling the tires, isnt going to affect lateral capability. Psi, tire composition, design, and suspension play those roles. ;)

    What the hell is it with Nitrogen these days? First Shell's bullshit, now this.

    FWIW, I've noticed Diamond Shamrock gas in my area seems to butt dyno better than Shell's nitrogen "enriched" stuff.

    Many people dont realize this, But the number one product that increases carbon build up in an engine is...........ready for this???



    NITROGEN!

    Its all marketing hype, and if Shell is really "Infuseing" more nitrogen (which is already in the gasline molecule) into their fuel, they are dolts, and must be hit with a fish.

    If you are going to switch to Synthetic, its best to do so when new....Most synthetic air, when added to a tire with higher milage, say 150,000 miles, could possibly cause an oil leak

    Only if the tires are designed to run with Premium air. You should be able to tell, as they will have knock sensors on them.

    I wouldnt take it to the dealership. Many times you think you are getting Premium air, or synthetic, but they give you the same old air thats been in the atmosphere for eons.
