I'm currently waiting on a '10 to show up so I don't have all the paperwork on books included with the truck so you'll have to forgive me if it's in there, but all the concern about a weak tailgate has me wondering what the actual weight capacity of the tailgate is. Also is that limit of the structural tailgate or is that limit from the steel cables that hold it in the open position?

    Thanks for any input.

Not sure on the weight, but you will fold the tailgate in half before the cables give way. Heard alot of people have bent theirs, for me and my 05 have not had any issue thus far. With my weight at 250 pulling up a 200lb deer have not had trouble, but you can bet I watch what I am doing now.

Pre-TSB I put a kink in my tailgate with two decent sized guys (200lb+) and a 55 gallon drum full of moist dirt and rocks (300+). We had unloaded I think three of these barrels already, and the last one kinked because we had tilted the barrel slightly (load focused to a single edge) and then one of us put our foot next to the barrel, to get better leverage. It went down an inch or so. It would be worth checking the numbers, but I think that any one person + any object they can personally lift, steroided weightlifters notwithstanding, should be more than fine.

The reinforced TSB gate I have now is a brick in comparison to that one.

Yeah, I was figuring that that was the about the limit. I have to move my dad around occasionally and the power chair he has weighs in at 360 I think. I'll have to figure out something other than the ramps we currently have.

According to my 09s user manual, they say not to exceed a load of 200lbs on the tailgate.

Personally, I find that a little sad. Anyone know of any mods you can do to strengthen her up?

Piercedtiger did a mod similar to this, it's in his build. :)

I've had me and another fair sized guy (probably 400lbs total) plus two six packs with no issues!
