I went to the dealer looking for TRD off-roads and their were none. Came home and look online and there was maybe two in my area. Just wandering if they make less of these types. I'm thinking of trading my XSPX in favor of the off-road. I didn't like the color of the two I seen online.

I was told at my dealer that the SouthEast usually does run short on inventory.

I have been told that there is a shortage nation wide and as of April 15th Toyota is only building certain configurations. I tried like hell to order exactly what I wanted back in Jan and Toyota kept rejecting the order. It finally went through about 4 weeks later and that was because they mistakenly ordered the wrong truck. We started trying to find something close and found 3, but the dealers would not give them up for nothing. I could have bought 2 of the three but the closest one was 200 miles away and I wouldn't have gotten near the deal. So I waited for something else and added the aftermarket stuff I wanted.

The info about the shortage came from a close personal friend, not a salesman trying to make a sale.

    None atm.
I looked hard for one here in Texas, North side San Antonio area, I found a Baja Edition and no off road versions. I snagged up the Baja, the lot only had 6 other Taco's all of which were Texas Editions. They may have had some in their overflow lot but once I saw the Baja and the lack of selection, it was a no brainer.

I can believe that. In my search around my area it seemed like for every 3-4 in stock sports, plus 1-2 base models and a couple SR5's, there was only 1 or 2 Offroads. And then it was a whole other story trying to find one as a 4x4. Lucky for me my dealer just got one in stock, and I had it off the lot within 3 days of it arriving.

The dealer told me that 4x4's are on short supply around my area.

I am currently waiting for a 14 DCLB TRD Sport which I had to order. I specifically wanted the entune system with navigation and my dealer told me that the mid-Atlantic region typically does not order them that way. Why? I have no clue and they couldn't give me a better reason than "Customers don't typically want navigation in them."

Well, I did want it and I asked that they get it with the JBL system if it was available. At the end of the first week of May, they grabbed an already allocated factory build slot that closely matched my desired truck (DCLB, TRD Sport, Blue Ribbon Metallic) and simply upgraded the Entune to add Nav and JBL. A week later Toyota rejected it. They retried the request and it was rejected again. They contacted the regional manager and he tried, rejected a third time.

Then they took one of their Mid-May allocations which they hadn't submitted to the factory yet and they built my exact truck. It was accepted but I still don't have a build date. The original one mentioned above had a build week date of June 9th.

So, I sit and wait and hope that I don't get a call telling me that even though it was accepted, it's now rejected.

My point is that it seems Toyota really wants control over the vehicles that are out there and where they're going. It's frustrating as hell because I would go on their website repeatedly and build the exact truck I wanted AFTER entering my zip code. If there's a problem with getting a certain configuration in your area, they should tell you so or not give you the option if they're going to require your zip code. It's stupid.

With that said, I'm too damned excited about getting my Taco that I can hardly contain it. I'm sure if you really want a TRD Off-Road configuration you can get it, you just need to work with a dealer who is willing to take one of their start-of-the-month or mid-month allocations and build it for you. Of course, they're going to cut off 2014's soon and you may end up with a 2015 order if you go that route.

    Good luck!
    Bob

This is exactly what caused my issue. I wanted the EN stereo package (Entune Premium with JBL & Nav). I finally settled for a lower package and bought a Pioneer unit and Alpine speakers all around plus amp, sub and box that I will be installing once the sub box gets here this week.

I understand that Toyotas in the Southeast cost more than anywhere else and have more "restricted" varieties of model types. I was told it had something to do with the way Toyota started to sell cars in their early years.
In any event, when I bought my 2011 here in NH the salesman told me that he has had a number of customers come up from the South to buy cars at his dealership because the difference in cost paid for their trip and/or they were able to get models that were unavailable.

Maybe the OP should look outside the region to see if what is wanted is available and at a lower cost

Sounds to me like your dealer/region is playing games with you to push you into a truck they want to move. All dealerships have access to a database that lists inventory ANYWHERE in the nation. If your dealer wants to work with you they will find one and move it for you.

Gulf States in Texas. They suck. I almost went to KC to avoid them. That was until I found what I wanted local with no steps and no $380 bottle of wax or "Vehicle Shield". I was close to ordering one. A factory order would have been the only way to get a Baja without graphics. White TRD ORs 4x4s were rare in Dallas when I bought mine.

Well the dealer I go to has a boatload
of tundras, xp's trd's, but just a few basic
tocomas. The salesman said I could order
one but there was another guy there trying
to offload his tacoma xspx so I figured it wasn't
going to be the right time to sell them mine.

Went through the same thing trying to get my truck. Don't know the whole story behind it, but I called a local dealership who had a white 4x4 TRD Off Road on their website and was told that it had already sold. The sales guy told me he could have another one ordered if I wanted one just like what I saw. He called me as soon as it arrived and went through inspection. I was at the dealership within an hour, and out in about 2. As far as I know, nobody else (customer-wise) even sat in the truck before I bought it.

Not sure what you meant (or).
I guess I just want the real deal
4X4 with locking rear diff and a
    regular looking Tacoma although
I like the way mine looks.

This will sound 10x's better than Entune/JBL. The JBL system is garbage.

Seems like it, I always see Sports and SR5's on the lots, and I had to wait a little over a month for my dealer to get a hold on the Off-Road I have. Definitely worth the wait!

I bought my 2012 TRD OR DCSB on 01/08/14 used. It had 21,000 miles on it and it was like new in every way. I paid $25,800. I also bought it from a very large dealership in Columbus, OH on a subzero day. Normally they sell 50 vehicles per day off of their used car lot, but the day I bought mine they had only sold 5 and it was 7pm! I think they were just trying to move something...anything!. Most comparable trucks that I've seen are $29,000...

    4.0 V6
    Automatic
    JBL Entune w/nav
    Pretty much loaded...
