No trimming needed. It is a custom fit for 2nd gen tacomas ONLY.

You do need to take the lid and hinge off though. After they've been removed, the thing slips right in place and is held in place with the two factory bolts.

If there is ANY downside, its that there's a little less room inside the console now. For me that wasn't an issue as I thought the original was huge.

This was an early Father's Day gift and it's the most useful one I think I've ever gotten. Way better than a tie.

Cut out the channels that will hold the UHMW to the skid. The UHMW sits flush to the bottom of the pipes. Next step is to drill all of the holes and then do the final welding.

It's a very dense, self-lubricating, abrasion resistant plastic. I'm using 1" thick panels between the pipes. It won't rust and will take a beating. The skid will be plenty strong and weigh a good deal less than the typical full plate transmission and diff skid.

 

That stuff is really cool. Awesome idea to use that material. Slide away my friend....

 

That's the idea. Either bear on the pipes, which will have a small contact area, or slide on the plastic. We'll see how it holds up to abuse.

U still on stock internals, or they forged and all upgraded? I thought 8# would be kinda high on stock rods and heads and so on and so forth

 

8* only flashes on the Gauge when the weather is just right..cool and dense air....stock engine can handle it #NoRedLine....
