VVT-i

anything special about haveing the " vvt-i " in our trucks?if so does toyota offer something of lesser grade?sure this sounds like a dumb question but there is a reason i'm asking ie method to my madness

I thought the system was implemented more to increase HP and level the torque over higher RPM, no lower. Either way, that's basically it, it adjusts the timing of the valves to either lean out or make it burn a little richer to provide performance gains. I will say it's not as 'profound' as honda's VTECH YO TYPE R!!! stuff, but the truck does seem to have a lot of steady power through the RPM band to me.

yea i really didnt think flyboy needed to go from 0 to bunghole in .0 seconds.since we've gotten back to a reasonable conv. i'll explain.since day one of owning my 2nd gen i've thought that the access door was such a blank canvas and really needed something on it.given it alot of thought .i was wondering if "VVT-i" carried enough

and for the non honda guys its not v-tech, its vtec (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) vtech is a telephone.....

I know but I can't help but make fun of v-tec any chance I get, being a mitsu/nissan guy myself for the most part.

Also, while it's valid to put VVT-i badging... it's also... eh I wouldn't but that's me To me, something worth showing off performance wise would be say, a TRD Supercharger or something of that nature. That's a badge that pulls it's own weight around, and then some.

 

There isn't a lesser grade offered than the VVT-i. This is just an oil pressure actuated cam phaser. This perticular application only controls cam angle of the intake camshaft, not lift or duration as mentioned earlier. Toyota does have the technology known as VVTL-i.

Continuously variable valve timing is used to maximize intake at both low and high rpms. Traditionally, cam profiles and timing was set for peak power at high engine RPM. Most driving cycles are not at high rpm duty cycles. Low end torque is sacraficed. VVT allows the timing to be phased to maximize low end torque at low engine rpm and peak power at high rpm with one cam profile. The result is great drivability and high efficiency.

 

"toyota" wouldnt look right.you already got tacoma on the door thought about trd but thats on the back fender in the form of a sticker,so i started thinking out of the box.unless i spend a couple g's TRD Supercharger wouldnt be relavent.kinda even considered "4X4" in the same 1 by chrome lettering

 

speakn of vvti, hate to interrupt the discussion of badging, but vvti is great. i really never noticed it before, maybe bc i rarely punch. but i was stuck in traffic last night, and right when it free'd up, i was still stuck behind this retard that was trying to guess what happened. So i punched the throttle to overpass, and it seems that at 4-4.5 rpm, my Taco woke up like an angry beast. i was very impressed. i love my taco. . . . ok gents, im done, back to badging. and oh yah, thanx for listenin.
