2.7l manual vs automatic

I got a manual regular cab. I think the auto might come with the bucket seats and the manual is the bench seat. Most of the guys with the regular cab 4x4 seem to prefer manual. It will give you some ideas as to what people prefer when you look at the description of their trucks.

 

Everyone that gets in my truck says "wow it really sounds like a truck" I haven't been in an automatic Tacoma but my fathers Tundra doesn't have the same "rough truck sound" even though its v8 and taller and just bigger in general.

 

Most full size trucks these days are luxury vehicles.

 

He calls our trucks "Big street Jeep and little street Jeep"

No offense, but if you need a manual trans to feel like a man....... that might be a problem sir.

I've never in my 36 years of being a male on this planet, had any member of the opposite sex question my gender based on what kind of gear box was in the car/ truck I was driving..................ever.

But to each his own, not starting a war (I love manuals as well) but I've never needed one to feel like more of a man LOL.

 

It's more of a statement than a legitimate feeling. If any of my friends get an automatic someone in my friend group would throw a rag or a napkin at them and say "wipe the sand out of your vagina" You're digging too deep into it. And, no offense, but if you didn't "want to start a war" why would you put your comment out there? Just curious

Spend a lot of time on various enthusiast sites, and these comments always come up. Same old thing about people who drive auto's are less of a man etc... 15 years ago, I admit, would have agreed with them. Today I couldn't care less, if my truck has a manual or automatic (I actually told the dealer I bought my '14, DC from that very statement) I was desperate, and needed to buy a truck that day, and would have taken the manual if they had it in stock. All they could get within a 200 mile radius was auto, no sleep lost.

 

And I suppose that's where our age difference comes in. My father said the same thing when I was looking for my first car "wait til you're trying to drink your coffee and you have to change gears (pretty sure I've mastered it now though ) I'm sure in the years to come I may have a different outlook on it, but as for now I get so bored driving automatics its not funny

 

I'd say like everybody else, test drive em both. But being in Miami where traffic is always a problem no matter the time of day. I'd say get an automatic, I'm sure my left foot thanks me everyday for getting one

 

And to think, they actually built 22RE, 4Runners. Heck the current 2.7L is about on par with the old 3.0L V6 which was something like 160hp I think? There was also a 2.7 3rd gen 4Runner, I'm fairly sure that had an automatic option as well?

 

I think that when Toyota came out with the 2.7 they were bragging about how it was pretty much on par with the old 3.0 v6.

The 22re and the v6 are really best suited as boat anchors now-a-days.

 

Have always preferred manuals but have found myself, recently, in situations where I'm driving a rental, and have thought... "Hey that's pretty cool, I don't have to shift".

 

Yet in Europe when you rent you have to special order an automatic, while you may not be able to rent a stick here.

 

Does it help to have a short-throw kit on it?
Does it shift easier with it?

 

The 2.7 was indeed available in the 3rd Gen. The 4th Gen (2002) was available with the 3.0 (4 banger), 4.0, and 4.7, but the 2.7 made a brief reappearance in the 2010 5th Gen.

 

2L with a 5 speed is unstoppable
