I've heard stories about those guys...and 5100's are just proven reliability. Bilstein make great shocks. I'll wait for others to chime in.

Sway-a-ways (SAWS) are a decent coilover. I havent heard much on them lately. Not sure if thats bad or good. Regardless, they are a rebuildable shock (like you mentioned) and also, can be valved to however you'd like. These are the advantages. Not to mention the are FULLY adjustable. 5100's only have a few settings. However, with the 5100's being so much cheaper, if you do not absolutely need fully adjustable coilovers, stick with the 5100's and use the saved money on rear suspension.

Sway-A-Way all the way. They are/were made by Camburg (or for Camburg whatever) and are 100x better than 5100s. 5100s are a generic shock, I've run them before and I'm not a fan anymore. They can't handle real offroad situations. If you're not concerned with off-roading they're fine but if you do they will disappoint.

Thats a pretty good value at $749 compared to Icon/king/fox. I would go with any of those over billies.

I had sway aways 2.5 and I was not nice to them, in total they had about 120,000 miles.

Previous owner had them on a allpro 3in spacer with the allpro long travel for about 50,000 miles and then I bought them/rebuilt them everything was fine nothing internally was bad and lasted another 70,000 miles until they started leaking just sold them went back to stock I don't offroad as much.

I would recomend sway aways to anyone

    This ^^^^^

If I could do it again I'd not get the 5100's and get SAW CO's or OME front suspension.

The way I look at it, it the 5100's are throw away shocks that are a generic coil over setup yet they perform well and a lot of people like them.

the Sway-A-Way coil overs are fully rebuildable, a true coil over shock valved specifically for your vehicle that could outlast the 5100's and they are race proven.

When you compare the toytec coil over/5100s to the sway-a-ways at the same price I couldn't understand why people go with the 5100's.

I guess its preference. Since I am upgrading my front lift from crappy spacers and stock shocks I think sway-a-ways is the way to go with better UCA's.

    Thanks

The Bilstein 5100 is a great shock. Huge improvement for a daily driver and feels much better than the factory shocks. Now, the 5100 is tailored for the daily driver guy who wants to level his truck out for bigger wheels, tires or what have you. Its easy on the wallet and serves it purpose.

the Camburg/Sway Away shocks are more focused on the offroad/weekend warrior. The option of running heavier or lighter springs or diff valving for winches, bumpers etc is always nice to have. the shock is completely rebuildable and tuneable. that being said, it will also probably ride stiffer than a factory based shock depending on how you set it up. if youre interested in pricing shoot me an email or call me at the shop.

its a trade off, but they both have their place.

Sway-a-way/Camburg are both great coilovers! Good Quality and Performance!

If you get the option to use on stock UCAs. Could you still use them on aftermarket ones in the future or would you have to buy the ones used with aftermarket UCAs. Whats the difference of the two?

    Getting there...
Not sure what the amount is on first generations, but the need for aftermarket UCAs comes when you go above a certain amount of lift. Above x amount of lift, you need the aftermarket UCAs to get your alignment in spec. So you could get these, and don't crank them over whatever limit it is for lifting w/o UCAs. When you do get aftermarket UCAs, you can crank them higher if you want.

I believe that the aftermarket UCA option makes the coil over a "extended travel" coil over, which makes the truck "Mid travel".
Basically if you flex the extended CO with stock UCA's you'll most likely bind the ball joint and possibly break it.

You can the the aftermarket and use the stock UCA's if you don't fully flex the front end or put limit straps on the front end.
