I would hate to fix it if it ever were to break. Scratch that it is inevitable that it will break especially if ford is involved. If a tractor trailer can gross 80000 pounds and get 7mpg why the hell cant a full size pickup get descent mileage pushing around itself alone. Something is wrong here.

Don't ask me. I have no room to talk about this. I don't know how it would work, if it would work, if this was serious, dropped, etc. Just put here for you guys.

They need to do something though-every truck company does because midsize trucks are no longer useful when full sizes get close to their MPG not to mention the same MPG. Co-worker took me to lunch the other day, drives a big diesel dodge (I didn't find out what model, it was a Dodge ) and he told me it got 19 MPG.

Yes people lie about their MPGs but I don't have reason to believe he was lying at that time.

    You have a good point.

But just like you say it would break if Ford made it... Wouldn't it NOT break if Toyota made it?

And I agree they need to figure that mess out

    Yup.
    Complete bullshit... at best, speculation.
You can't trust ANYTHING from the blogs and e-zines, as we have seen from the articles indicating the new Tacoma in 2012 2013 2014 2015

    I did.

    Ha! That's the truth.

Never heard of Hino or their diesels. To Google!

To all.. Again... Don't be under the impression that I am claiming we will see hybrid Tundras next year. Again, I am just sharing.

Its not as a crazy idea as most people think. Having an electric motor in a truck powertrain offers more benefits than just MPG, one specifically being that an electric motor can supplement the main engine with torque on the low end. This would result in a much larger RPM power band, perfect for towing, pulling ect...

If a decent battery system could be designed to sustain a fully electric truck power train, it would be awesome for delivering max torque throughout all RPM's

Hino is Toyota's heavy industrie division. You've seen their flat-nosed box trucks, same size as the Magirus trucks.
They also make full size tractors, but they are extremely rare... I've only seen a couple in my travels.

My buddy's first yacht (1980-something 40ft Bayliner) had twin Hino 4 cylinder Diesels.

I forgot to post in this thread. Yeah, I looked up the HINOs, not many around here but I may have seen one.

Solar panels in the bed floor? Of a truck? Are you fucking kidding me? I load my sled in the bed sometimes (among other stuff), it would be real interesting to see what my 8" dual carbide skegs will do to those solar panels.

I think you're being a little picky. It's pretty obvious that truck manufacturers know you can't just stick solar panels in a bed for things to set on. Really? First of all, they said it was pure speculation. Secondly, they demonstrated where they would go, it's pretty obvious that they would protect the panels well enough to be used in the truck bed.

Also, when you're not hauling anything, there is always the argument of "Why not buy a car?" And if solar panels are in the bed, it adds constant utility to them.

And again, pure speculation. I think Toyota and Ford deserve a little more credit than to think they would put breakable solar panels in the bed.
