Have heard lots of guys saying that they'll do their first oil change within 1-2000 km. Dealer told me not to be dumb and to bring it in at 8000

    Thoughts?

I did mine before I hit 500 miles on my 2006. I was advised to by a few mechanics I know. Then every 5K miles after that with full synthetic.

I think the early oil change is outdated thinking nowadays but I still did one at about 1,000 miles and switched to synthetic.

It is your nickel, but you will not gain anything from an early oil change.

Changed mine(to synthetic) at 500 miles. "Peace of mind" is worth 40 bucks, especially on a $32k truck that I plan to keep for a good long time....

Reason the mechanics told me to do an early oil change was because of the new metals in the engine and tiny shavings from that new metal breaking off from the interior engine components from the new wear and tear.

    Things I need to tow.
This may have been more applicable in the 60's and earlier, but machine tooling and methods have advanced light-years from those days which is why formal break-in periods have pretty much gone away.

I changed the oil in my Tacoma early the first time as I wanted to use the brand and viscosity I prefer. May not have been necessary, but I didn't know for absolute sure what was in it OEM or where it came from and felt more comfortable once I'd changed it.

I'm sure your right but I didnt question the mechanics that I talked to since I know them all personally so I just took their advice. $40 for oil was food for thought.

I had it changed at 1k miles on my 2009 and
1.6k miles on my 2014. Sent it to blackstone labs, and results came back with high level of metals (which they said its normal for new engine) so I'm glad I did it and will do it in the future with any new car.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I'd change the oil if it's dirty or smells of fuel, for sure. Just keep an eye on it.

I'd be more concerned about changing the rear diff oil to synthetic; you won't believe what the shit in it now looks like.

My rear oil looked pretty good at 20,000 miles when I changed it. The front on the other hand was pretty murky.

I changed mine at 3500 to full synthetic when I had my super charger installed....seemed like a good idea

    Some stuff...
I did my first oil change at 1,500 - 2,000 miles to switch to fully synthetic. My next came at 5K miles and I plan to do it every 5K from here on out. (Rig barely has 6K miles on it at almost a year old.)

I did mine at about 2k with full synthetic. I figure it couldn't hurt and what's the $ vs peace of mind?
