To me there isn't really a set pressure everyone should run. Way to many variables that go into tire pressures. Wheel size, tire size, vehicle weight, tire construction, front/rear weight distribution, and road conditions all play into tire pressure. So just because xx psi is what one guy runs doesn't mean it will work on another rig. I run 40 in front and 32 in the rear on mine just because the front of my truck has a lot more weight than the rear.

Thanks everybody for the input. Sounds like the best shot is to measure tread wear and adjust. Anyone know way other than the chalk test? Or if it is possible to perform the chalk test without a long stretch of pavement? (I have a driveway and a 1/3 mile gravel road to the highway

Chalk test is really best but you can easily do a modified version. Clean you tires off with a hose and then drive them back and forth on a dry, dusty patch of that dirt road you have by the house.

It won't show pressure points as well as a chalk test, but it'll make sure you're not hitting extremes where the outer edge of the tires or the inner isn't touching.

I would do all. Because your back may need a different pressure

My truck MPH reading was off from day one. Nothing major, but I have to be reading 71-72 to actually be going 70 (stock tires and wheels right now). The miles are completely accurate though.

Our stock 4-runner is the complete reverse. MPH is accurate, but it actually shows less miles than what is actually traveled.

Verified both of these with multiple GPSs.

Actually I found the odometer to be pretty much dead on, while the speedo was reading a touch high. With 33's on my odo reads about 9% short while my speedo is about 5-7% off (seems to vary at different speeds). I used an app on my phone to track speed and distance and used that to calibrate my Ultragauge.

What app did you use? I still need to calibrate my UG after I don't know how many years :anonymous:

My speedo is I think 10% off... Does anyone know what the Tacoma governer is set at? Does it cutoff via speedo or a real time mph? Because when I first got the truck it shut off at 113 MPH, if the governer is at 100 I will know I am 13% off

Speedo cuts out at 115 mph. Not sure why you cut out at 113mph unless the computer read 115 and cut before the speedo in the dash reached 115mph.

I use Android-Speedometer but any app that keeps track of miles traveled will work.

Dang. Back to square one. Multiple speedo apps read that I am about 5 or so percent over on the speedo.

As your speed changes the percent will change. The faster you go the larger the difference gets

Really? I figured it would be a one rate percentage, that accounts for the numbers increasing. (49 MPH@50, 58MPH@60, 62MPH@65, etc)

The difference will change but the percentage should not. Though mine did vary a little as I said above. I think the speedo is designed to read over at all speeds and this would account for the percentage change.

The percentage will stay the same. The difference will change for mph as the speed changes.

Back on topic! Dilemma: I want 255/85R16s or 255/80R16s but I can only find them in a mud tire (I know... I know... shh) and I am looking for highway tires because all I do is commute home/work/gym/restaurants lol so I am trying to conserve MPG. I know it's the wrong tire for MPG but just bear with me! Thanks
