Rack is ingenious I tell you. Those of you that have them, what is your opinion on wind noise?

Got the bedrack from a local forum member that sold his Tacoma. It was custom made by a local shop.

I only notice it at about 55-60 mph. However I dont think its very loud at all. About the same as having the air on med to high speed

Sub'd. There is so many times I wished my cab rack and topper rack were level!! I think I'll order a pair of these to solve that very problem.

Considering how loud my factory FJ rack was, I noticed a slight improvement with Zach's design. However, I needed the rack to haul stuff which always make lots of noise while on the freeway.

    Looks great!

I am also in Denver. May I ask who coated them and what they charged for the roof rack alone?

    Zach -

    Nice products!

What is the lead time on a 2nd gen DCSB (2013) roof rack with two extra crossbars (unless you'd recommend more) shipped to Denver?

Typically I have been telling people about 1-2 weeks. The new shop that is doing my cutting has been a little slow. I think they had some hesitations cause I am a new customer but I talked with them yesterday about future business dealings and they should be speeding things up for me now. The quality of product they are producing is better as well due to better machinery.

Ok. So regarding cross bars - In my thinking, 8 would be the minimum, putting spacing between them at _____?

Lastly, what would you think powder coating should run if I have it done locally. I see that you offer that service, but need to make a comparison somehow.

    thx

I am not near the files now to check spacing if you had 8 crossbars. I want to say it would be a little less than 6" spacing. I have 12 on mine and it is about 3" spacing, 4" on center.

My pricing for powdercoating was the exact cost from the place I used before I moved, I didn't mark it up. I would think it was on the high side though because I was in a pretty small town. It will probably be a little cheaper now that I am in a more populated area. I would think that 125-175 would be a pretty good range depending on the shop you go to.

    Zach,

I have the shark fin antenna on the cab. Any compatibility issue with your rack?

Also, I would be interested in powder coating the two side pieces only, and leaving the crossbars silver. Is your powder costing fee for the entire rack, including cross bars? If so, what would be the fee for just the sides?

Finally, I have a CVT RTT and a Leer cap with factory installed Thule rails, towers and load bars. Mounting the RTT is already a fairly tight fit when accessing the mounting hardware. I would imagine that it would be even more difficult with so much less room between the clamps and the topper roof. What's your input here?

FWIW: I plan on taking Zack's rack and permanently mounting it to my RTT thus eliminating the stock mounting rails on the tent. This will in effect to lower it by another inch or so.
My theory is then I will be able to simply mount the entire set up to the Thule rails.
My intention is to get the tent as close to the top of the truck as possible while at the same time making a more secure mount for it.
Zach's product is far superior to the stock crossbars for this purpose.

You will have to move the rear crossbar forward on the cabrac to fit the shark fin antenna but other than that it will be fine.

I mount my roof top tent on my rack on a snugtop. It is tight, and with a normal socket I can't even do it. I first was using a crescent wrench or standard 1/2" wrench to tighten the bolts and it took me awhile to do it cause I had to do little bits at a time. With a pass through socket type wrench it is easy. I also plan on trimming the mounting bolts for the clamps by about a half inch to have a little more room.

Powder coating for the rails only would probably be in the $75 range.

Front to rear it is pretty flat, maybe 1/4" of curve. From passenger to driver there is a curve though like you are saying

    Updates

Finger crossed I will be picking up all the materials from the laser cutting facility this evening or tomorrow morning. As I have told many of you via PM, the new shop I have been working with kind of dropped the ball and said they would have stuff done in a week and didn''t even start it till after that week was up.

My plan is to ship out everything saturday unless you ordered powdercoating. If that is the case then it will be a few more days to get shipped. I appreciate the understanding and patience.

On another note, I had some extra room on a sheet of steel parts that I ordered and have some cabrac rails that were cut from 3/16" steel. If anyone is interested let me know and I can offer a slight discount. They are the exact same design as the aluminum version just made from steel so they will be slightly heavier.

Also have a set of blank aluminum rails laying around with no slots. Just a clean slate for someone who wants to tinker on their own. I will let them go for pretty cheap as well.

I have a set of steel rails as mentioned above, same function just a bit heavier (cheaper though). I believe the aluminum ones have all been claimed.
