I ran Coney to Middle St. Vrain in October and it was fine. I was amazed that it wasn't bad at all. I also ran Bunce School Road last Monday (Memorial Day) from Hwy 7 to Camp Dick, the gate was open and Front Range 4x4 club had just cleared all the downed trees and we made it up to the plane crash site. Good time!

I'm gonna bring my truck to safari ltd in junction sometime this month to get my air locker installed :goingcrazy: it'd be awesome to meet up if it's during that time. I'll have my mountain bike since i'll have nothing else to do while it's in the shop for a day or two

Dates are finalized for this expo!

Alpine Loop National Back Country Byway, including the cities of Ouray, Silverton, Telluride and Lake City and area trails

    Dates: August 10 - 14

    Commitment deadline: August 1st

Limit to # of vehicles: Open

    Specifics:

(Trail routes are open to discussion by participants)

August 10 - Meet up in Gunnison in the pm. Provision up at the local Safeway and bunk down locally overnight. This could be a bit tough to coordinate due to the need to reserve early this time of year. We'd like space at the KOA for simplicity so that all participants will have an easy rendezvous point and can arrive when they choose, but a caravan or meeting place on the morning of day 2 may be needed. This will be nailed down well on advance of 8/10.

August 11 - Up and on the road by 9:30, off to Lake City via Sapinero Mesa (15.44 miles of easy dirt) and then Hwy. 149. Last minute fill-ups and/or provisioning in Lake City, then hit the Alpine Loop Byway toward Engineer Pass.

Take in the sites, the sounds and the old mines, etc., remembering that the road itself is the goal, not getting to the end of the road. Enjoy lunch on the trail and find a place to camp a few miles short of Ouray.

August 12 - Up and at 'em when group agrees. Head into Ouray for exploration and perhaps a dip in the local hot springs. We are looking at taking Yankee Boy Basin and Imogene Pass over to Telluride. Still looking at Black Bear Pass.

From Telluride we’ll head back over to Ouray (Route TBD) and hit the Alpine Loop again in the late afternoon/early evening via Mineral Creek for an overnight. Optionally, individuals can choose to stay somewhere in Ouray and meet on the trail at a predetermined time/place in the am.

August 13 – We will get back on the trail, heading south toward Silverton, enjoying the mining ruins and ghost towns and wild flowers along the way. We can have lunch and explore a bit in and around Silverton, then take off to run trails for a few hours as the group desires. We are looking at Picayune Gulch and/or Placer Gulch and/or Kendall Mountain.

The trails above Silverton will likely present a camping opportunity. If so, let’s take it. Otherwise, we're just going to hit the Loop again in the late afternoon/early evening and head a few miles up for an overnight. Optionally, individuals can choose to stay somewhere in Silverton and meet on the trail at a predetermined time/place in the am.

August 14 - Head out and up the Loop toward Cinnamon Pass and Lake City. Again, no rush. There are side roads along the route. One in particular, going to Carson, is on our list. Again, taking it slow and enjoying this marvelous landscape. Lunch on the trail when desired by the group, or individually as you wish.

Wrap up the journey by heading north out of Lake City and catching Alpine Plateau, a 27 mile, fairly easy dirt road/trail that will lead us back to Blue Mesa Reservoir and then Hwy. 50 to Gunnison.

I'm so in. Obviously first I'll have to check with work, check with the ladyfriend, check with work again closer to those dates, and then check with the ladyfriend 4 or 5 more times, but yeah I'm so in

My wife is so awesome, she started packing for Moab before I did!
Btw, I know there is some spontaneous taco person out there with extra time and money but no plans that wants to go to Moab this weekend! Leave Thursday, drive back Monday.
    Set list:
    Friday: fins then hells
    Saturday: flat iron Mesa
Sunday: ??? Maybe top of the world, maybe just chill and take in some sights and take kids to a pool or something.
