Don't use metal valve stem lids unless you're certain the metals won't mate and fornicate yee day as it has mine.

remove valve stem cap and get the entire thing. Quick, move it to level ground!

Front stems are corded like crazy

rear sheared right off, didn't even chance taking the remaining caps off to inspect the stems, I'm out of spares!

Learn from my misfortune everyone, keep the stock plastic caps. Stay away from the showy metal ones.

I work at a garage and I see this all the time. People put on the crome caps on there metal sensor stems. They corrod all the time when not checked. And then your screwed and will need to get a new sensor.
Now if u are having trouble removing other ones. Here's a tip but be VERY careful u can use a lighter to heat up the cap and gently use pliers to wiggle and pull it off.
This doesn't work all the time but sometime it does

I know differant metals with a common surface can cause issues. Just didnt give these much thought. Bonehead.

Almost all of them do. I have seen some metal one with a plastic cap inside it to prevent corrosion

I was dumb and put some caps on my old car wheels. After awhile I couldn't get them off even with a little heat.

Discount just removed and replaced the whole valve stems for me for free when they were slow one day.

Our TPSM and valve stems are one piece apparently. So im into two new sensors at $60 each. At least the new two will be the two piece rebuildable ones for cheaper adventures in the future.

Nev-r-sez is your friend. It will help prevent this type of corrosion.

I'm not sure even anti-seize will help, it's Galvanic corrosion caused by aluminum and steel being together.

Galvanic corrosion requires a bridging electrolyte, if I remember my high school chem correctly (typically water when it comes to valve stems and caps).
The Neversieze acts as both a barrier between the metals (which prevents direct contact) and a sealant, keeping water from getting in. it's not a perfect cure; Neversieze is messy and over time it will dry out, but you should be checking your air pressure often enough that you'll notice and can reapply it.

We used to use Neversieze when I worked in a retail shop and almost never had problems with the caps corroding to the stems. We applied it to all threaded parts of the TPMS sensors, as well as a thin layer around the valve stem hole in the rim.

water to bridge the process makes sense. We had a cold winter and it never thawed so as I checked tire pressures throughout the season (got new tires right before winter) I had no issue with the caps. But now that it's thawed, we've gotten rain and whatnot. Whammo crapped caps.

You guys that are learning from my post, if you want to send me a couple bucks to spread out my $120 experiment PM me :D

Bingo. Steel and aluminum just don't like each other Haha. That's why when people pull off the lug nuts on an aluminum wheel the wheel is stuck on there corrosion with steel an aluminum stinks

no worries on rubber valves with brass threads or any brass thread and metal caps

I put pink metal caps on my GF's snowblower years ago...zero corrosion

When I had new tires put on a couple of weeks ago, the guys made a big deal of not using metal caps because of galvanic corrosion. I kept the metal caps they took off and stuck a magnet on them when I got home. They weren't steel; probably chromed brass. There was no corrosion on the stems or caps.

Do you have TPMS, or Ye Olde rubber stems?
