First, you might want to see if mod can move this to the Audio subforum, you may get more answers there. Second, are you sure it's the right harness, specifically for the JBL system?

If you have the standard harness it doesn't fit the JBL one.

That's it. I installed a HU in a 4runner with the JBL system with one of the $130 units to be able to interface the JBL amp (Has to have a digital signal to turn on) and it sounds like absolute shit. If I ever do another JBL system I'll just rip it all out and start from scratch. The box I put in used the RCA's off the new HU to interface with the JBL. I messed with the gain on the box for hours and never could get it to sound very good. Either the volume wouldn't go high enough or it was muffled with too much gain. Personally I think if you want good sound quality, I'd take the entire JBL out and go with aftermarket HU and speakers and/or amp.

Yep I agree 100% with the above. I did the same thing in my Mustang GT with the factory amp so called premium sound system and ditched it all and started from scratch.

Yeah, the JBL sounded better than the $1100 I spent on a DVD HU and box to convert it.

I have an aftermarket JVC head unit going in, and 2 10" fosgate subs in the back. still need to find an amp. so your saying if I get the adapter for the harness, the sound quality will suck?

Pretty much did in my experience. If I ever redo the runner it will be stripped of the JBL and rewired as a separate system.

Eh, it depends. I never had a problem with any harnesses. Then, if you are going to Put an amp for your mods and highs. You really just need to connect power, ground, and I believe remote wire from the radio. Everything else will come from your rca

I also highly recommend Crutchfield, I removed the factory radio and installed component speakers in front and rear doors, replaced the factory radio with a Kenwood Dpx500bt. I know it specifically asked if my tacoma came with the JBL system so I'm figuring that they probably have a harness for it. Check them out very friendly folks, very knowledgeable as well.

Ohh and if in case your looking for a amplified subwoofer, I recommend the Kenwood hideaway, it's a 8 in sub w/amp, great lows and it fits behind the rear seat of my double cab, I just cut the metal hook that was there so that the seat will go back into place n lock. Check out crutchfield.com for the specific dimensions and power ratings. I believe I paid $299 for it about 6 months ago. Absolutely love it

Is this a used head unit? The harness you bought should just color match to the wires on back of the head unit.
