I would let them fix that. If it's at a shop you trust and they have a good warranty I don't see why not.

I hate seeing tacos all torn down :(

Did you ever get an itemized list of parts and labor? I'm betting the mechanic left out lots of little things. Have them put it all back together because you want to take it to another shop for another estimate. Keep costing them money they will total it! Also ask to see another adjuster. Maybe she doesn't know much about towing. Front end will never correct, alignments will be off. Diminished value, never be able to sell. Every day insurance is paying storage fees and such. Just hold out. You will get any and all money you have spent so far. Just keep good records-- mileage ,doctors copays(if any)...

    All OEM parts in estimate?

I got the original estimate but not the updated one with 12k in damages. Will they charge me the storage and tear down fees if i do that?

Non oem parts in the estimate... my policy says if its 2 years or older they can use aftermarket parts

Insurance pays storage fees and all. No money out of your pocket,no deductible or anything-- it wasn't your fault. At fault pays for all , don't forget to say that to the adjuster. Sounds like she's working against you rather than for you. Tell them you want another estimate. For a simple thing the mechanic might miss-- new front tire, but you can't just put one on it needs to be at least two...etc
Get the estimate and look it over good. Point out anything you see wrong. OEM all the way. Again you were not at fault.

What happens if the at faults insurance doesn't have enough coverage and it has to go through my insurance which does not have to use OEM parts?

Well looks like i'm going to get a local auto appraiser to appraise the car so i can get an idea of the diminished value

    Thanks

I should have the dimished value report next week or so. The official police report will finally become available on tuesday, and at that point the other insurance company will have to claim liability. I am going to have the dimished value report and amount ready so they can add that to the repairs and hopefully push them towards a total.

I am also going to send it to a 2nd shop for a second opinion on the repair costs.

The shop i am looking to send it to is audi, porsche, mercedes and bmw certified.

If there is absolutely no way i can get them to total it, and they do fix it. I want to make sure there are no corners cut, and its done at a reputable shop.

I found this document online that says toyota does not recommend applying any heat to repair a frame. Do you guys know if heat is the method used to straighten a frame?

Also does anyone know where I can find an updated version of this document?

That is correct. No heat to straighten frames. Bad part is to be cut out and a new part is welded in. Let them use heat then make the insurance company total it.

I remember seening this as well, I want to say it is located in the owners manual.

I think I use the online version of an owners manual to find it.

Well the body shop said they wouldn't be using heat anyways...

The estimator for the other insurance company is supposed to go do an estimate soon too

I've never heard of that either, Unless it is the extreme ends of the frame, like a bumper support.

Not really looking to good right now. Looks like the lady's insurance is not going to be enough coverage. So my insurance will have to cover the damages and they are not budging on a total loss as of now. I don't have renters insurance so i am still renting a car out of pocket... Looks like they might end up fixing the truck
