Thinking about getting one of those aftermarket "T" in towing harness' for my '13 regular cab but im a little skeptical using non OEM stuff even more so when it comes to electrical components.

Ill be towing a single jet ski so the trailer will be in and out of the water often.

Does anyone have any experience with the aftermarket harness', do they have any problems? Or is it just more worth it to just buy an OEM harness kit from toyota?

    They suck.
Tapping into any wire with scotch locks etc opens the wire to all sorts of issues.
I take them out all the time. Green, corroded , useless. Then it ruins the factory harness besides. Once you compromise the outer protected shielding, it's only a matter of time.
If you can find aftermarket plug and play with the converter then fine.
I ALWAYS tell anyone to go factory.
You'll get just as many saying I have no problems and your wasting money etc.
I have never had to take out a factory.
Being around water all the time, only one choice IMO

I dont think Toyota makes a harness to directly plug into the 4 cylinder. The T connector you speak of is 100% plug and play with no splicing or special wiring of any kind. Take it from a guy with 80k miles running his.

We may be playing with terminology here.
Scotch locks and t connectors around here are the same. The only diff is the t has an actual spade to connect a wire. Still pierces the wiring.
Toyota has complete wiring kits that use the actual fuse boxes in the vehicle.
That being said. They cheapened out and I believe 2012 or 13 they changed to a piss ass converter box that is plug and play like your referring to.
Either way. If you get a plug and play box like I mentioned without going splicing or piercing the wiring, then you will be fine.
If there was confusion I apologize...

Yea i was referring too the plug and play aftermarket harness versus the OEM plug and play harness. I ended up going to with the hopkins 43355 kit that "T"s in to the existing tail light harness with plugs.

Although i very much appreciate the responses from both of you!
