Then it's pretty cool you're able to help him out when they can really use the extra hand on deck.

Compromise ... work the rest of this month, then take off the rest of Summer.

Thanks for the fishing well wishes...we'll see...Alaska and the Copper River, they're like a couple of very fickle women, you never know which way they'll turn, but then they're never boring either. :D

I got a couple of errands I have to run in town then probably take off this afternoon - its only like an hour and half drive for me

No shadow self portraits there - I need flat or up slope ground ahead of me for that

Now that you put it in context I can see that ... I'm sure you'll come back with some interesting and eye-catching pics though. :)

    Lisa,
Don't know if you ever made it over to Chitina. This is looking north from the bridge. The fishwheels are off on the right; that's where we launch and recover our boats. We drift along the wall on the left with our nets adjusting to keep them right off the bottom of the river as we go. Normally all that gravel and sand bars you see are covered with water and you can only tell they are there by the ripples. Thought ya'll might be interested. :notsure:

These are the boats we use and our little fish cleaning table rig.

I never did gt over there but I have had the Copper River Reds before....yummmm!
I was married to a fisherman so I never had to worry about fishing...if I wanted a fish then he just kept one or two in the cooler on the boat and didn't sell it.
Depends on the river and the salmon run. Different rivers have different limits and they do fish counts where they estimate how many fish have made it up stream to spawn, if there is a surplus of fish then they'll up the limits. Where I was at it was 15 per household (one person) plus 5 for each additional person in the household. The place was a freakin zoo for the whole month of July (that's the subsistence dipnetting season) with people camped and fishing shoulder to shoulder on the beach
EDIT Out of staters taking a charter or going out on their own are limited to three salmon - at least that was the rule back then

I would like fish better if we actually had fresh fish here. So little of it is even close to fresh, and when it is, it is expensive.

And catfish isn't very good unless you either fry it, or blacken it.

She did like halibut, but that is only because it is less fishy than any other fish.

Cook it on the grill! As much as I love to eat fish I hate the smell it leaves in the house so I either grill it or make it on the campfire
Rosemary, thyme, pepper, olive oil and a couple lemon slices wrapped up in some foil and you're good to go!

If I lived on the coast again I would be enjoying all of the seafood, you're crazy being where you are and not taking advantage of the fish market!

The costco here gets fresh wild AK salmon in June and July - I stock up and freeze a bunch. It can be pricy - usually between 11 to 14 per pound

Right now, thats the same price beef is going for too.

And the fish market is 45 minutes away on a good day. Once she has a job and some income, I will be able to cook a bit more of the good stuff.

She has one job awaiting her background check, and another will be back to her Monday. Another interview Wednesday. I just know that things are getting tight. Especially now that my renter might be moving out in a month...
