Let's See Some Softoppers

Only thing I can think of is maybe there was a better seal before removing and adjusting these past couple times. Seems like there is a little more wind getting into the bed that is forcing the windows to flutter at highway speeds.

 

Just bought a used softopper on ebay. Planning on installing this weekend. Will post pictures when completed!

 

We'll I took everything off and put it on best as I could. Did about 40 miles at 75+ mph and nothing blew open. I did notice the sides " sucking " in more then usual and got me thinking. Today we had temp in mid 80's. At this elevation (6k feet) the sun bakes. I wonder if the material is just softer then usual?

 

I wouldn't be surprised. I've noticed when its cold i have a helluva time trying to connect all the snaps. These warmer days it seems to be much much easier.

 

They mention weather effects in the manual.

 

I just drove a wrangler for 6 years so very aware of how temps affect soft tops. I just wasnt sure if it was aiding in my wind problems all of a sudden by being softer due to warm 80-90 degree weather. I know the snaps and such are a lot harder in the cold...just like putting a wrangler soft top on...takes extra muscle to get it in place.

 

-20 for a few nights, and things are fine. Just really hard to unzip. (a Supertop, but should be the same)

Is this the company that went under a few years back? You couldn't get one when I was looking to buy. You cant fold it down but the structure underneath was like a roll cage.

 

Can back is an awesome product but it's like most things... You get what you pay for. That's why a can-bak costs as much as a hard top shell.

 

They've ran into some problems over the years, but their product is definitely solid.

We were lucky enough to get this one with the 4Runner when we bought it last year and even have an extra cover, along with the hard top. I wish the Can Backs were still readily available... I'd get one for my other trucks, but that is why I was looking at this thread for Softopper reviews since I can get a pretty decent dealer price on them.

 

Wow great deal, if it were mine I would have sold it separate, but that was awesome of the seller to throw everything I the deal.

If your looking for a softopper then I reccomend it. No where near as sturdy as that can-bak but it's a great product to cover the bed and keep stuff dry and out of sights.

Just installed this weekend!

 

Used it as a tent on my last few camping trips. solid and kept us warm all night.

 

Does the back bar on anybody's Bestop pop out when you hit bumps? I'm thinking my rails might be a little too far apart or something.

I put little bungie cords around the mount to keep it in place for now.

 

When I was setting mine up i tried to widen the rails to get it closer to the outside edge of the bed. I noticed that the bars easily came apart while trying to put the canopy on. I figured it would be best to follow the directions and stick with the prescribed width between rails than risk it falling apart while riding around. you can download the directions off their site to get the exact measurement, I want to say it was 58.5 in or something around that.

 

Does everyone just leave theirs on all the time? Ever worry about it getting stolen?

I'm looking into buying one but this was something I've been wondering.
