Hold the brakes and slowly press the gas pedal down while you are in drive .Transmission shops do this every day for diagnostic purposes . All you are doing is loading up the engine and transmission to see if you can reproduce the noise without moving the truck . Allow the transmission to cool after the test . You dont need wheel chalks or an intelligent tester to perform a stall test , thats just going by the book .

Absolutely. Drive it around, run it up to operating temp. Find a nice big empty lot and stall test it a few times. 2-3 times,,should be sufficient,,sometimes,,just one.. You can put a tremendous amount of heat on that system real fast,,so don't just sit there and let it howl on the converter all day long with both feet on the break pedal trying to hold it back. Use good judgement and be safe on all this.

Try it thru all the forward gears on the selector.

I'm thinking it might just be time to sell the thing. I've been working on it for the past year, just trying to get all the vitals normal, have solved nothing, and have yet to really 'enjoy' it.

So long as that front diff is not smoking hot when you check it,,it is probably the trans or converter. At this point in time(or any),,if you replace one,,replace the other. A trans shop should be able to diagnos your shift pressures and such,,go for a ride along, that sort of thing.

Check that stubby front driveshaft, it was off and thrown about during the ring gear change. I can see a ujoint cup loosing a needle and making noise,,howling ujoints,,wouldn't be the first time.

It might have just happened by coincidence, who know's.

    Tappin out??,,already?.

I'm thinking about it. This is not the truck's only problem. I've been fighting with it all year. Haven't resolved anything. Just keep adding to the list. I want to go wheeling. But all I can see is a summer of sitting around shops all day, searching the forums at night. I already missed out on last summer with this thing.

    I'll check the front driveshaft.

Well, I sold it. Succubus truck. Like a real hot girlfriend. You look at her and can't believe your eyes. Seems like she'd even make a good wife. All your friends comment on her and are jealous.

But behind doors she's nothing but problems. Wants all your time and money. Not very good in bed. Never happy. Always something wrong. Will leave you one day.

So now, I'm on the hunt for a new pony. Hopefully a TRD or at least one with a TRD axle swapped in. Then everyone will say: Look at the nice ass on that girl. :)

Some would say that,,"Nitrous is like a hot chick with STD's,,you want to hit it but are afraid of the consequences".:D

Cheer up lil camper,,another one will be right along. Try not to get caught up in the TRD hype to much. Even some of those folks would say the same.

I know what you mean about the TRD hype. I don't care about the suspension and all that shit, it's more that I want the rear locker. I don't dig the ARB locker so much, prefer the E-locker. Yeah, I could get a plain 4x4 and swap in a TRD rear axle, but I need a break from wrenching, and if I can find a truck that already has the axle, why not?

Oh ya. We made it a total of 900' one year,,using up 24 pistons in the process. At $1200 per set,,before rings and rods.

ha ha. for some reason when you said nitrous, i thought you referred to whippets, whereby the consequence would be brain damage. so, i was trying to be funny.

now, i see you meant hitting the nitrous canister on your truck, which will also give the truck brain damage, as you described.

either way, you can't catch an std from a hot chick as long as you pull out.

Hahaha! Well, by the time you pull out of the nitrous,,it might be also waaay to late.:)

No nitrous on the truck. It was/is a purpose built race car.
