New rack version looks great!

 

UPS estimator is telling me around $200!

Thanks I will check into it. Do they do larger parcels though if it isn't a APO? Seems like last time I checked into sending it via usps they said they didn't offer a service for that large of a parcel.

 

not 100% on that - all my product is boxed but yours is shrink-wrapped. I don't know how usps feels about that. They've got rules other carriers don't.

Even UPS charges me a little extra to do the shrink wrap, but so far it has been cheaper than finding the right box. I am hopefully going to have some custom ones made that will be around the same price as the shrink wrap.

 

Want really bad, but have antenna mounted in roof. Composite bars wouldnt interfere with RF of antenna, hmmm

 

Have antenna on roof as well. Hadn't imagined that there would be an issue when roof rack installed.

Anybody actually had an issue, or are we specuguessing?

 

well it being a metal would interfere with RF in TX and RX, but then again, its just 2/70m

I ordered the KBvoodoo bed bars and they shipped USPS ok, they were long but very narrow, I believe USPS has a max cubic shipping size of LxWxHxG(girth) with a weight limit of like 60lbs.

I tested it with 20lbs with 60x8x8x8 is $100-130..

I do have the ability to build your rack at my workplace, if you'd be ok with leasing the print...i'd rather throw money at you instead of loosing it to shipping charges

 

Oh...I thought u were referring to the OEM shark fin antenna.

 

To ship you would be looking at something similar to that size typically the packages are about 65" x 8" x 8" and range between 35-45 pounds depending on the number of crossbars. I am a little skeptic of sending out the files just because it would be an on your honor type deal and because I am not sure where this business will go. That being said we may be able to make something work. I will send you a PM.

 

I don't know much about radio, also don't know what you would do as far as a composite bar. You are always welcome to order just the side rails though and work out your own idea for crossbars. Would a low profile rack really interfere that much with a antenna mounted to a metal roof? Again I know nothing about this radio business so go easy on me.

 

I don't think the rack would interfere much, it doesn't seem to sit high enough off the roof to cause an issue, and it's all AL too.

Totally understandable. I am sort of lazy and do love supporting fellow TW enthusiasts that have done the design work. I've machined a few things for some local members, but mostly one-offs and all done manually. Looking forward to the PM. Thanks for the consideration.
