I have a 2008 access cab SR5 with the standard bed size. I am looking to install a lumber rack on this truck. I don't want to buy a new one because of the cost. I know that it has to be a rack just made for this truck but will a generation 1 rack work as well or are those side rails or box size a generation 2 thing?

Yeah the height they give is the space to the top of the roof line (safety loading)

Wow that's a trip!! 1st gens are 1" longer and 1" wider than 2nd gens?? So they made the overall truck bigger but shrunk the bed?

We lost bed space because of the big ass composite peice I reckon. The previous gen had an all metal bed.

Are we comparing the same measurements?

I thought the newer generation trucks were overall WIDER than the 1st generation trucks? Which....would make the bed wider too.

Just like the truck gaining 5-6 inches in width, the bed of the Gen 2 could have been 5-6 inches wider, making it quite a bit bigger than the Gen 1, but the gimmick storage boxes were added instead. Ever look at all the wasted space between the composite bed wall and the outside sheet metal?

Maybe this was done cause when Gen 2 came out in 04-05 it would have been too close to the Gen1 Tundra bed size and stole sales...

    gross

you may have a bigger cab and more horsepower...but i'll take my 20+mpg with all my mods :D

    oh

as for the bedsize...1st gens didnt waste 6-8 inches of space putting in plastic storage compartments and outlets...id assume thats where the loss in width comes in

as for length though...cant 2nd gens come with both a long and short box?

I don't need the extra power, so if/when I ever get a 2nd gen truck, it'll be a 4cyl. since the new ones aren't far from my old v6. As for the huge luxurious cab, I got leather seats, they recline, I can reach my rear sliding window, I have power everything (available), cd/cassette, my interior doesn't get scratched if I look at it wrong...........I got the kind of truck that 1/2 of you 2nd genners wish you could have gotten:D:p
