My stock 2008 dblcab 4.0 4x4 auto trans and Leer Cap seems to get up and hop just fine.
I commute on I-78 with plenty of hills and fast traffic.

It does have a 'stiff' throttle, but my size 13's have no trouble.
    I punch it, it goes.

To each their own but I didn't buy a Taco for neck snapping G-LOC acceleration.
I bought it for it's Swiss Army Knife versatility.

Hauls my trash while still lookin' flash. :D

The performance of my Tacoma impresses me every time I drive it. Maybe I should buy a Frontier to educate myself about what real performance is?????

I believe they actually let you test drive a tacoma that really has a nissan engine in it, then after you test drive it they swap it for a truck with a crappy toyota engine in it.

LOL my d-cab long bed 4x4 taco will blow the doors off of any "normal" car on the road here. You should drive a 3.4 taco then compare... it really is huge. the only time i feel the power could be more, is when it's full of people and gear.

i think its funny that people with the 4.0 think that its weak... really.. you have 33's and its a 4.0... also 4,143 lbs in the nissan xterra, your truck is 4160, but you have bigger wheels and tires... so lets add at least 100-150LBS to your truck... so now your truck weighs much more than your xterra..

If you want the takeoff power and 0-60's, 1/4 miles that you seem like your asking for.. go get a supercharger for the tacoma or get a truck with a bigger motor with less mileage and more power...

Maybe when test driving they use race fuel, guaranteed 50+ hp increase, but upon taking it home you only put in 87?

Added a spoiler to my tacoma... instant increase of 1,000 HP. Next week, gonna add racing decals, and maybe a set of foot pedal covers... NHRA qualified in no time.

Perhaps, but its stupid, and only damages the drive trains, and proves nothing. Ive seen Audi's pull half ton trucks. Hell........Ive seen a jeep give a 3/4 ton Dodge a stalemate, and Jeeps cant tow shit.
